The street lights reflect on my pale skin making me look like a vampire. Every so often one street light flickers, one light in a house is still on, or an animal is on the lawn barking or meowing at me when I walk past.
I stop in front of my destination, Alley's Home For Unwanted Children. I walk up to the door and knock as soft as I can. I had made a plan for if they didn't answer, I would just leave and go door to door and ask where the nearest foster home is and walk to it.
I hear small foot steps and the door cracks open. "Mommy! We have someone at the door!" the little girl shouts. I hear another pair of foot steps coming this time a little faster. The other person came and fully opens the door.
"Hello. What would you like sweetie?" the girl asks. "Are you Alley?" I ask quietly. "Yes sweetie. I must ask who are you?" Alley says smiling at me. "I'm Marceline, but please call me Marcy," I say kicking a rock. "Well that's a nice name. But I have to ask you again why are you here?" she says the smile still on her face.
"Well... I need a place to stay," I mutter so fast that I'm sure she didn't hear. "You need a place to stay well then come on in," Alley says her smile getting even bigger. 'H-how did you hear me?" I ask shocked. "Well you're not the first person to mutter everything!" she says with a small laugh.
Alley signals me to come in after her and I follow. "So ah, Marcy, I'll get you a room tomorrow. You can sleep in the living room if you'd like, you can turn the T.V. on if you'd like, but please don't wake everyone up. Oh and we're having pancakes in the morning," she says waking back to the stairs with a big yawn.
I slowly walk into the living room and get a blanket from behind a couch and wrap myself up in it. I can't really remember the last time i had a blanket this warm. Everything in the room was so warm to me. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
