Chapter 21 A New Mission and A Drunken Confession

Lucy's POV

He dropped his arms around me like I burned him. He looked at me like I was an alien from outer space. I didn't want to talk about it, my engagement was a sore topic and I hated that he actually managed to get it out of me.

"Your engaged?" He repeated looking sad, angry and... Hurt. I hated myself for putting that face on him, but it was the truth.

"Well, not really engaged, more like betrothed." I tell him starring at my feet like they are the most interesting thing in the world.

"You're engaged to be married?" He repeated trying to wrap his head around it. I take a deep breath and meet his haunted gaze with my sad one.

"Yes Natsu. I'm engaged to be married." I tell him. He flinched and searched my eyes to see if I was lying. I wish with all my heart that I was.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He commanded darkly. I shiver at the tone and wrap my arms around me as if to protect myself from what was to come.

"Because I don't like to talk about it." I mumble looking at my sandals again, avoiding his glare.

"Well bully for you. You should have told me the day we kissed instead of leading me on. Or was that your big plan there? Your fiancé not getting you off Lucy?" He accused. I flinch at the tone when he said my name. I said nothing, I knew he wasn't going to listen anyway.

"I can't believe how wrong I was about you." I felt my stomach drop at his words. He gave me a cold hard stare. "I guess your exactly like the others." I didn't let him belittle me any further and walked off taking a deep breathe to stop the tears his words brought. Natsu moves to grab me and I jump away from him.

"Don't!" I shout. "Don't touch me." How dare he. He acts like this is my fault. I didn't want to be engaged and it's not like I was jumping into Natsu arms. Why is he behaving like this? He doesn't get to treat me like that. Like I'm some whore.

The rest of the mission was a blur. It was tense between Natsu and I. Juvia and Erza asked what happened, but I said everything was fine. They looked skeptical but knew I didn't want to talk about it. Natsu on the other hand avoided us and said nothing. After the mission and we got our money we headed back to the guild. Natsu got motion sick but tried to be indifferent about it by looking out the window. He wouldn't even look at me anymore. Back at the guild Natsu and I still had not said one word to each other. Natsu stormed inside but I stayed out.

"Is Lucy not coming?" Juvia inquired. I shake my head.

"I'm pretty tired I think I'll go home tonight." I turn and start in the direction of my home. I don't need to look back to know that Plue ran out to follow me. Plue runs to stand beside me with a big lollipop that had the fairy tail logo on it.

"Punn?" Plue offers me a lick if the pop. I wanted to smile at him but I couldn't. I was to upset and confused. Why was Natsu so mad? I know he wanted to sleep with me and that little spill put a dent in his seduction. But why call me a slut, telling me I lead him on. Did I lead him on? I couldn't help my reaction to him, I don't know why I want him so much and I do realize I like him. A secret I will take to the grave no doubt. But I don't recall saying yes, but I don't recall saying no to him at times either.

Maybe I'm your mate? That thought never even crossed my mind. No, thats impossible. He was just messing with me. Besides it not like he could actually be my mate. There is just no way fate could be that cruel. To have me on the verge of mating to someone else, to suddenly showing me my mate in a completely different world then I am.
I open the door to my apartment and head up stairs and throw myself into my bed. I turn to lie on my back staring up at the ceiling. I can't believe how wrong I was about you. Your fiancé not getting you off Lucy? Your exactly like the others. I pull my arm over my eyes and clutch my necklace for solace. "I thought you were different Natsu. I guess your like the others too." I whisper. After a while I fall asleep.
