Evan POV
I noticed throughout the week that Tyler stopped trying to hold my hand in class. Hopefully he hasn't lost interest in me. I guess I will see the answer later today at he party. The week went by so fast!I glanced over at him to see how he was doing. He stared absentmindedly at the whiteboard obviously not paying attention. I wanted so badly to reach out and touch his soft looking face, to hold him in my arms. But instead I watched him watch the whiteboard. Sigh. He noticed me looking and mouthed:"what?"at me. I quickly looked away. I heard him laugh a little as he turned back to the board. I frowned a playful fake frown at him but his attention was not longer focused on me. I could hear our teacher, Mr. Paine droning on in the background about math and graphing and shit but I couldn't be bothered. I know I'm gonna fail finals but hey, who gives a fuck?
"So, Evan can you tell us what the answer to the question would be?" Mr. Paine asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
The whole class stared at me, waiting for an answer. I looked at the board and tried to make sense of the jumble of numbers written on it. Tyler nudged me and mouthed:" four".
"Um four?" I said shakily.
"Evan the answer I was looking for was 20,000. Next time try to pay less attention to Tyler and more to the lesson so you will be able to pass finals." Mr. Paine responded sternly.
Next to my Tyler was laughing into his hand.
"You ass!" I whispered, causing him to laugh more.
Before he could respond the bell rang and I left quickly with Tyler on my heels.
"Sorry dude I couldn't pass up the opportunity to mess with you. You should've been paying attention." He said playfully.
"Oh shut up. I'll get you back for that just you wait." I responded, shoving him softly.
"Oh sure. I'd like to see you try. I'm like a ninja, nothing gets past me." He pulled his shirt up over his mouth and did a karate pose as if to prove his point.
I laughed and put my foot out, tripping him, but I didn't expect him to grab my shirt, pulling me down with him. He landed on his back in the grass and me on top of him.
"Ha, some ninja." I said
"You're one to talk." He replied, but the playful time had left his voice as he noticed our position. He leaned in closer to me and I did the same until our lips were so close.
Is he trying to kiss me? What do I do? Do I let him? I want to but we are on the grass close to a classroom where anyone could see.
He looked so conflicted and almost scared, as if he couldn't bring himself to close the space between our lips. I made my decision. I got up quickly and offered him a hand. He took it and I helped him up. He looked disappointed and I'm sure I mirrored that. We walked the rest of the way to the quad in silence. Once in the quad Tyler looked around, confused. I assumed he was looking for Michelle, but she was no where to be found. I sat down and he sat next to me, still keeping an eye out for her. I scoured my brain for something, anything, to talk about but I came up with nothing. It was starting to get awkward. I pulled out my lunch and said the first thing that came to my mind.
"So uh, do you like bread? Bread's great right. Man you just gotta love that bread." I said.
Shit. Bread? Seriously. Wtf brain.
Tyler looked at me questioningly and I shrugged and looked away. Why was I getting so flustered.
"Um sure dude." He said, smiling.
I looked down at my sandwich and ate it quietly until I felt something hit the side of my face. Something suspiciously grape-like.
"Hey did you just throw a grape at me." I said, looking at the bag of grapes in Tyler's hand.
"Um no. Why would you think that?" He asked innocently.
"Lier!"I said, grabbing a cherry tomato from my lunch and throwing it, hitting his cheek.
He threw another grape and I dodged it, retaliating with a cherry tomato to the forehead. Soon enough it turned into an all out war which got pretty intense until we made a huge mistake. A cherry tomato missed Tyler and instead sailed past him hitting Penny who was walking by right in the back of her head. She turned around slowly, anger painting her face red.
"First you break my heart and now you hit me with food?! That's it! You'll pay for this Evan." She yelled, before turning on her heels and stomping angrily away.
Tyler and I looked at each other and in unison said:"shit!"
Tyler POV
The bell rang as Evan and I were packing up our lunches. I frowned, not looking forward to the rest of the day, and totally not because Evans not in any of my classes. Not because of that at all. I turned to say bye to Evan only to see him staring very seriously at me. It was almost intimidating and I wasn't used to seeing him like this.
"Um b-bye Evan." I said, turning to leave but he grabbed my arm and pulled me in for a hug.
Surprised but pleased I hugged back and enjoyed his warmth. He let go and the seriousness was gone. He was back to his smiley self as he grabbed his stuff and waved good bye to me. I waved too and walked to class.
That was weird. I wonder what was in his mind to make him stare like that. It probably wasn't about me. I bet he was thinking about Penny. I heard they broke up. Yeah. It couldn't have been about me.
