Chapter 7

Nik

I woke up to the light shining into the room. Illiana was sleeping beside me not moving, just breathing. My watch showed 7:30 AM. We would be leaving today. I got out of bed and into the bathroom. My eyes were killing me, I knew why and I had feeling that Elli's eyes hurt too. 

I grab my bag and rummaged through it until I found the small case that contained the essentials I needed for my eyes. 

I looked in the mirror and moved my finger to my eye. The contacts were like fire. The little circle came out easily and staring back at me was the red eye that I hated so much. 

My father is the reason for this war against the THEM and RED EYES. He is the missing prince of the THEM.

My sister and I were never supposed to happen, we're freaks of nature! Half human half THEM! The red eyes are a mystery to us, we weren't messed with. My father said it was genes, that there are red eyed THEM. 

My eyes felt better, the contacts sting to much, but I can't risk it. I can't risk losing the only person that will help me get my mother back. 

I put the solution into the contacts and slipped them back into my eyes. The pain isn't as bad, my father taught us to deal with the pain. 

I walked out of the bathroom put the solutions and case back into my bag. Illiana was still sleeping where I left her. 

I needed to check on Ellie, her eyes might be bothering her too. 

I slowly walked out of the room. Elli's door was locked so I knocked. 

"I't about time!" She said as soon as she opened the door. 

"My eyes hurt!" 

"SHHH, I know now come here to the bathroom." 

She followed and handed me her kit of supplies.

"OK lean back. You know you are going to learn how to do this yourself." I told her

She grunted, she never liked touching her eyes. 

"Are you done yet?! My neck hurts." She wined

"There done." 

"Nik? When are we going to tell her?" Ellie asked me.

I shrugged, I didn't want to tell Illiana, if she ever found out she would kill us both without any hesitation. 

"Get ready and meet us in the lobby." I told her

Illiana was up when I returned to my room.

"Hey where were you?" she asked me.

"Just checking on Ellie, that's all." 

She nodded and started packing her bags. I went up behind her and kissed her cheek.

"You know, I don't know if Ellie will be comfortable with us." She said to me

"Well she will have to get used to it." Illiana laughed.

I didn't want to ruin this, us so I knew at that moment that I won't tell her what I am. What we are.

Illiana

We were driving looking for a gas station and food. It seemed like hours when we finally found one.

"OK, Nik go with Ellie to get gas, I'll get the food."  I said to them. 

Nik and Ellie, went off and I went in the opposite direction. i kicked the door and had my gun in hand. The place was empty, or so I thought. 

There were racks that hadn't been cleared and I grabbed it. At that moment a hand grabbed mine.

"Don't shoot!" It was a boy about the same age as Ellie.

"Tell me why I shouldn't!" I yelled at him

"Because I'm human." 

I looked at him and then his eyes. They were normal.

"OK I won't shoot. Who are you?" I asked him still pointing my gun at him.

"If you said you aren't going to shoot then why do you have it still aimed at me?" Oh he was a smart Alec.

"Just answer the question." I said to him lowering the gun

"I'm No-"

"Noah?" It was Ellie who talked

"Wait you know him?" I asked her

"He and I met ... a while back." She told me

"Ellie is that really you?" 

"It looks like her." I told him getting annoyed. 

"Wow I never thought I would see you again." he said to her. Great pre-teen romance.

"OK nice to meet, and enough chit chat, we need to go." I told Nik and Elllie.

"Can I come? My whole family is dead by RED EYES. I have no one." I can't have another person with us! Great ahh. This is complicated. 

Ellie looked at me with pleading eyes.

"Ugh fine." I told her. She jumped and gave me hug.

"Well lets go!" I yelled at them.
