"How was it?" Zayn asked the minute I shut the door. I was too overwhelmed right now to talk. The fatigue was slowly setting in and I could feel my eyes starting to close.
"I don't really want to talk about it..." I sighed and he nodded. He started driving and I rested my head on his shoulder. Before I knew it, I was asleep.
* * *
I woke up slowly and realized that I was in my bed. I rolled over and let out a sigh. It was all over. "Zayn?" I called out as I continued waking up. I assumed he was nearby because he carried me inside and put me to bed.
I heard his footsteps and then he appeared a second later. He climbed into bed with me and wrapped his arms tightly around me. "How'd you sleep?"
"Okay," I sighed and buried my head into his chest. "I'm sorry I didn't want to talk about it earlier. I was just so exhausted from the whole thing and I needed to rest."
"You don't have to apologize, Ava. I completely understand," He kissed my head softly and ran his fingers through my hair. "Do you want to talk about it now?" He asked calmly.
"I guess," I sighed and sat up more so I wasn't on top of him. "So it started off pretty bad, I guess. I wanted to know how they got into drug dealing but they got kind of defensive. My mom kept saying that I could speak to my father the way I was but I argued that he wasn't much of a father figure. Then they told me that they started doing coke as well as dealing and I just can't believe how irresponsible that is. What if I had found it?" I let out a long sigh. "My dad said he started dealing so that he could buy me stuff which is absolute bullshit. He just bought alcohol with the money and got drunk nearly every night."
"Ava...I'm sorry." Zayn caressed my cheek and looked at me cautiously, like I was about to break.
"They asked me why I didn't come to the trial or any of the hearings and I said because the last time we saw each other, my dad's hand was around my throat," I felt Zayn's hands start rubbing my back. It was such a calming thing for him to do and I loved it. I felt like I could open up to Zayn about anything. He truly wanted what was best for me. He cared about me completely. "But then the conversation kind of turned around and we talked about college and you came up."
"You told them about me?"
"Not really...I just told them that you helped me out a lot this year and that you were my boyfriend. They don't even know your name," I smiled weakly. "But it was just so stressful. I would try to ask them questions and my mom would get all defensive. I never really 'attacked' them like that before but I felt that I had the right to know everything."
"Of course."
"I could tell my mom was mad at me but she couldn't yell at me or anything because she would've been taken out." I smiled and Zayn chuckled under his breath. "It was just so exhausting." I groaned and put my head against his chest again.
"I understand," He said and pulled me closer to him. "Do you think you'll go back?"
"No," I said and I was glad he didn't pressure me for reasons why I didn't want to go back. We laid in silence for a few minutes before I spoke. "What did you do while I was inside?"
"Um, I read a little bit and texted some friends." He shrugged.
"Sounds like a blast." I smiled. He basically just sat there doing nothing all for me. It wasn't like it was a quick trip either, I had been gone for hours."Thank you so much for driving me and sitting out there for a while. It really means a lot."
"I'm so glad I was able to help you," He kissed me softly and quickly before giving me a big hug.
"What time do you have to be at the game?" I questioned as I remembered that Zayn had a soccer game tonight.
