One month later........

The street lamps shone down on the dark street. It was unusually quiet for the small village of Tenby, but everything was different now. Windows and doors were firmly shut in every house. Shops and restaurants all had closed signs pinned on their front doors. There wasn't a sound to be heard except for the crashing of the waves against the shore.

Inside a small house sat Tessa in her bedroom. She stared up at the ceiling, while lying awkwardly on her bed. Everything had changed in the past month, even Tessa had changed. She had become wary of everything and she felt lonely and misunderstood. It wasn't just her who had changed though, the first people that she noticed behaving strangely were her parents. They, among many others, had evolved into mindless zombies. They would obey every bizarre order their leaders gave to them.

Tessa felt completely and utterly hopeless and alone. It had been the Skylords that had changed everything. Everyone seemed to worship them and Tessa just didn't understand why. For a while she had began to think that she was the crazy one, but she just knew there was something not right about the situation.

The Skylords whom Tessa had grown to fear wore black cloaks, that covered all of their bodies. No one had ever seen their faces, but she got the idea that this wasn't a bad thing. Tessa seemed to notice that once the Skylords summoned someone, she would never see them again. She found this frightening as she was waiting for the day that her and her parents would be summoned. Rumors had even passed around, that the Skylords were soon going to rule the world and Tessa couldn't even imagine how bad life would be if that happened.

Every time she mentioned these matters to her parents they would get all defensive, claiming that their leaders were the best they had ever had. She had given up on this now though because she feared that she couldn't trust anyone in these times, even her parents. She had even ventured talking to Charlie her best friend about it but it was no use, no one understood Tessa. Her heart had sank when Charlie didn't believe her because they agreed on everything and Tessa couldn't imagine living any longer in this world, not being understood by at least one person, especially people so close to her.

The creepy thing was that the Skylords had laws enforced on the whole village. The village was dead. People were hardly allowed out of their houses and they were forbidden under any circumstances to leave the village. Tessa had thought for a while of running away and finding somewhere that wasn't affected but she couldn't bear the possibility of leaving her parents. She had to stick through this and do whatever she could do to stop it.

Tessa sighed and got up to turn off the light, not knowing what else to do but sleep. She hadn't gotten much sleep lately because she stayed awake worrying about everything and she was beginning to think that she would never sleep properly again.
