The girl hurried down the dark village, looking back now and then, as if she was being watched. The time was nine o'clock which was the deadline to be indoors. The girl was in such a rush that she didn't notice the cloaked figure following her.

She was too busy worrying that she wouldn't get home in time for the deadline hour, thinking of what the Skylords would do to her if they found out, or even not what they would do, but she didn't want to disappoint them. She didn't know why, but something was telling her,  in her mind,  not to disobey them. She had tried to fight with it, but eventually she had grown to accept the Skylords into her life and she hoped that this was a good thing.

Tessa, her friend never really understood this. The girl sensed she was different. She never spoke highly about them, nor did she worship them. The girl feared that Tessa would get into trouble if she said things like this out loud. Although some part of her  was telling her to listen to what Tessa had to say, but another part of her refused to believe anything she told her. Now that she thought about it she hadn't seen Tessa much lately in the past month, which was very strange, because they were very good friends. The two of them seemed to be drifting apart and the girl had begun to grow suspicious of Tessa and why she was the only one who didn't believe in their leaders.

The Skylords had ruled for as long as the girl could remember although some of her memories about them had been strange. She didn't remember any details about them just the fact that they were to be celebrated. She had never heard what they had actually done but she guessed that they must be great if everyone talked so highly of them.

Tessa was also next door neighbours with the girl and she just saw Tessa's house looming into view. She looked down at her watch, it read five past nine, she gave a sigh of relief. She sped up a little, as she had the sudden feeling she was being watched, but was too scared to look back, not wanting to see what was behind her. There was a noise behind her, she froze and stood to a standstill, then slowly  turned but before she turned fully, she felt a hand lightly touch her shoulder. She looked up,  her hands trembling and saw a dark hooded figure in front of her.

'Charlie Browne, come with me' it announced in a loud deep voice, gesturing the opposite way to where she was going. It started walking away from her, expecting her to follow. Charlie guessed that everyone the Skylords summoned never protested or ran away, so they were fairly confident that people trusted them. In fact being summoned by the Skylords was said to be an honor and everyone was waiting for the day that they would be summoned.

Charlie stared transfixed at the dark hooded figure and even though she couldn't see its face, she knew that it was thinking something like 'Go run if you dare.' She began to think what would happen if she did try to escape, but she knew it would land her in more trouble than she was in now.

Some part of her nodded at the figure as it had stopped, obviously suspicious as to why she hadn't followed it. She tried to look as confident as possible and reluctantly followed the hooded figure down the dark lane.
