BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
Curse that alarm clock.Monday. The least liked out of all of the weekdays. It was a miserable morning in Los Angeles, California. Outside it was raining cats and dogs which really never happened in Cali. But of all days, it had to be raining at 6:30 AM on a Monday morning. 'Do I really need this job?' I thought myself.
Obviously that was a rhetorical question. Of course I needed my job. In fact I loved it. (Despite my boss who is the equivalent to Satan himself). Photography and journalism have always been my dream. I finally had it. But it wasn't like I was working some major magazine. All I was doing was working for a newbie magazine called "Stylish."
It was supposed to become big like 6 months ago when we were recognized but soon replaced by some other magazine. We were back at the bottom. Anyway, I can't complain.
I slowly got up and threw on some leggings, a white blouse, and put on some make up. Quickly, I straightened my hair, slipped on some flats and head out. I drove my red Dodge Dart to a new cafe called "Wake Up!" A simple and generic name really. But their coffee was out of this world. For breakfast, I sat there for at least 35 minutes editing an article, and a picture as I ate a muffin with some coffee.
Once I was done, I packed my laptop into my bag, threw my plate away and walked out, still holding my coffee. For some reason and I still don't know why but I thought I heard someone say my name. Does anyone ever randomly experience that? So I guess it was just once of those random and useless times.
I turned around to scan the room for anyone I knew as I continued on extremely slowly kept walking. As I turned back around I immediately ran into someone, spilling my now-cold-coffee all over his shirt. When he looked up I almost fainted. It was Leonardo DiCaprio! "Oh my Gosh! Ugh I'm such an idiot! I'm so so soooo sorry!" I panicked. Quickly I grabbed some napkins and gave them to him.
"Relax! Relax! It's fine! I wasn't watching where I was going."
"No really it's my fault. I wasn't paying attention."
"Well then we're both at fault for it." He laughed.I blushed. "Gosh I really do feel bad though. Is there anything I can do for you?" I asked, nervously running my fingers through my hair. At this point I was definitely going to be late for work. He smirked. "The only thing I'll ask you is if I can have your phone number." Leo whispered as he looked me straight in the eye.
Leonardo Friggin DiCaprio seriously just asked me for my phone number!!! If that's not lucky than I don't know what is. This man. This rich, successful, happy man is interested in a not-so-rich, not-so-successful, unhappy girl like me.... HOW?! Even after I just destroyed his shirt! I was probably frozen and standing there like an idiot.
"E-Excuse me? Y-You want my phone number?"
"Why not? After all you did ask if there was anything that you could do to make up for it. This is the only thing that came to my mind. It seems like a pretty good deal anyway. I'd choose your phone number over a shirt any day."Dang he was pushy. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It was so surreal. This was obviously some kind of sick joke. Or I was hallucinating pretty badly due to lack of sleep. "Um... I guess." I grabbed a random piece of paper out of my purse and scribbled my number with my name above it. "Selena Alice." He mumbled to himself.
Hearing him say my name was so satisfying. Unfortunately, this amazing moment couldn't last forever. I had to work. "Well, I guess I'll talk to you later. I need to get to work." I spoke quickly. Hurriedly, I sped out of there and off to the office. First off, your chances of running into a celebrity are pretty slim even if you are in Los Angeles. Second, having a celebrity ask you for your phone number is practically as likely as seeing a unicorn jumping over a blue moon.
What did I do to even deserve this? When I got to work, my boss was on me like white on rice. "I'm so sorry, Ms. Dixon! This will never happen again. Something really weird happened at the coffee shop that you would never believe." I tried explaining to her.
"And what exactly happened, my dear?" Irritation was evident in her voice.
"I... Well I ran into Leonardo DiCaprio. I spilled my coffee all over him. One thing led to another and then before I knew it, I was handing him a piece of paper with my number on it."Ms. Dixon eyed me. "Right. Get to work, Selena. I did have good news for you today but I want to see you working hard and making up for your mistake today." She spoke to me as if I was some juvenile delinquent. A few hours passed by and she came into my cubicle. "So about the news I told you earlier." Ms. Dixon said.
I looked up from my computer and faced her. "People Magazine has a job offering up in New York City for you. You have a month to decide." She tossed a packet of papers on my desk that contained all the information about it. I blinked. "Thank you! Wow oh my gosh! This is amazing! I-"
"Save it." Clearly she was angry since she was going to lose an employee out of this. I stared at the packet that had PEOPLE in boldfaced letters. This surprisingly amazing Monday was just a rollercoaster of emotions.
