Right or Left?

Chapter 8: One Week

Let's get this straight. Leo met me because he took part in a stupid game that required him to "fuck me" and "dump me." Nice right? Once I got off the phone with Jason I didn't know how to react. All Leo was trying to do was get in my pants. I couldn't believe I actually allowed myself to fall for that. "God I'm such an idiot!" I cried into my pillow.

The rest of the night was miserable. Sleep wasn't coming easy and when it did, I woke up every five minutes. So I was left just staring at the ceiling with eyes that burned from all the tears I shed. My Dad was right. No one would ever love me. Never have I felt more stupid.

The next morning I went to the cafe as usual. Leo was in there. We made eye contact for a few seconds but I got my coffee and left. "You have a call from People. They need you to call them back ASAP." Ms. Donna informed me as soon as I walked through the door. When I got to my cubicle I called them back.

"People Magazine, how may I help you?"
"This is Selena Alice. I'm calling about how I'm supposed to be going to New York in a few weeks."
"Yes! First off, we're thrilled to have you join us. The sample pictures you sent in are absolutely marvelous!"
"Hehe! Thank you!"
"You're welcome. But what we really need to discuss is when we're expecting you."
"Mhm?"
"Well of course our original plan was to have you here by the 1st of next month. But there's been a slight change in plans."
"I'm sure I can adjust. What's been changed?"
"We need you here by next week. There's a project we've been working on and none of our photographers qualify. You on the other hand are exactly what we need. However, judging on the fact that you're all the way in California, that would be extremely difficult."

One week? I don't have too much furniture and things. If I just bought a plane ticket and had my things flown there than there wouldn't really be a problem. But I'd need to start hunting for apartments in New York too. "I can make it work. I definitely wouldn't want to miss out on this amazing opportunity!" I replied.

After work I came home to Chinese food and Ally crying to the movie, Titanic. She immediately turned it off once she saw me walk in. "Sorry, darling. I know you're still very hurt about Leo." She said. Ally hugged me. "Yeah. It gets worse. I forgot to tell you what I answered the phone to last night."

I explained everything to her and got super choked up about it. But I ended up eating my feelings away with some egg-rolls and orange chicken. Eventually I had to break the news to her about going to New York in a week. Now that made her cry. "I don't know if I can handle things without you!!" Ally cried.

This day was just an odd day all around. The atmosphere was heavy and miserable. It just wasn't a good day. When I laid down in bed, I booked the flight to New York and took a look at some apartments.

I was half asleep when I randomly got a text from Leo.
Leo: Look I know Jason told you everything. I can explain though.
Me: I'm going to New York in a week. I can't do this. I'm sorry...

I typed that text with shaky hands and tear-filled eyes. After that, I got no reply.

Sorry for such a short chapter. I promise the ones after this one will be long again. I went from over 1500 words to only like 644 in this one lol!!
