Chapter 5: Aftermath of death

Ruby's point of veiw...

Reneé came out of hospital 3 weeks after the 'incident'. She was in a wheelchair while her legs healed. After I had told her about Ciara, she went downhill. She doesn't talk to anyone (or write since she can't hear herself talk), but I'm not sure if it is just an inconvenience. She pastes on that fake smile she has when she has a lot on her mind and always looks distant. I just hope that the funeral helps her come to terms and realise that CiCi (our nickname for Ciara) isn't coming back. I think that she will come through - I think it to be unlikely that she would go downhill, but we will just have to wait and see.

She seems fine on the outside, but I think that I'm the only one who knows she isn't.

I wake up and look at the clock. "Sugar!" I half yell, then slap my hand over my mouth because half the house will be asleep. It's 8:00 and school starts at 8:30. I then realise that it is Saturday. Mentally face palming myself, I crawl back into bed, but then my phone buzzes to remind me that CiCi's funeral is today and I need to get ready to go to Reneé's house to help her get ready.

I drag myself out of bed, grabbing my clothes and rushing to the bathroom to have a quick shower to freshen up. 

Once I dried myself after my shower, I get dressed. I'm wearing a minty-green dress that I bought for the occasion. 

I quickly go to the kitchen and get some WeetBix out for a quick breakfast, then start walking towards Reneé's house. She only lives about a block away from my house, so it took about 3 mins to get there (I'm a slow walker).

When I arrive, her mum answers the door and lets me in, so I head up to Reneé's room.
