I ran faster than I ever have in my life. Thanks to the adrenaline, I was able to get a fair distance from my village before running out of breath. When I did, I stopped and placed Addison against a large rock. I sat down beside her.
The only thing that had been on my mind since running from my village, was survival, but now that I had a chance to think, I started thinking about what happened back in the village. My mind went to my parents. Their deaths were because of whoever was after me. I turned to the rock I was leaning on and punched it out of anger. It hurt my hand, but I didn't care. I repeatedly punched the rock, but it wasn't helping my rage.
Suddenly, as I was punching the rock, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked to my right and saw Addison. She had just waken up. Her eyes showed concern. I saw the bruise on the right of her face and the cut on the left, and my rage turned into grief. My eyes started welling up, and Addison wrapped her arms around me. When she did this, I started sobbing uncontrollably.
"They killed them," I said. "They killed my parents. I couldn't save them."
"This isn't your fault," Addison said. "Don't blame yourself. There's no way you could've known this would happen."
"I'm sorry you were brought into this."
"Don't apologize. You brought me for my safety. It all happened so fast."
I knew her nickname was Compassion, but I had not expect her to be this understanding. I hugged her tighter, glad that I wasn't alone. We stayed there for awhile. I couldn't stop crying. About eight minutes later, I finally stopped crying. Addison let go of me and put her hands on my shoulders.
"You okay now?" She asked.
"Yeah," I said.
Addison smiled at me then gave me another quick hug. She stood up and held her hand out to me and I took it. She helped me up.
"We better get going," She said.
"yeah, you're right. I'm sure more people will come looking for us soon."
We got back to running. As we ran, I looked around at our surroundings and realized we were leaving. This would be the last time we saw this place. The thought scared me, but there was nothing I could do about it. While I was focused on this, Addison stopped. I stopped and looked at her and saw she was staring at something ahead of us. I looked ahead and saw an enormous building in the distance.
"How long has that been there?" I asked.
"It just appeared," Addison replied.
"Let me try something."
I turned around and walked forward a few feet. When I turned back around, I couldn't see the building. I walked back to Addison and the building appeared in my sight.
"There's some sort of barrier," I said turning around again.
"Barrier?" She said.
"When I walked back, I couldn't see the building anymore. When I walked back over here, it appeared in my vision."
"How has no one else found this?"
"I don't think anyone from the village has gone this far before."
"Apparently not."
"Let's go check it out."
I grabbed Addison's hand and started running again. The building was the only thing in my mind. I needed to know what it meant. With every step, the building got closer. My lungs burned, but I didn't care. I kept on running. Soon, we reached the building.
