"Oh, c'mon! Just do this one thing for me. Please!" I beg, practically on my knees.
"Sorry but if I do this I am going to get fired and my job is very important to me. I love doing it and I'm not letting you ruin it," Uncle Bruce apologizes, ruffling my hair.
Luckily, I have collateral. "Uncle Bruce, remember: Oh no," I imitate a deep manly voice, though I am doing a terrible job at but I do not care as long as I get this one thing from him. "I left my wallet in my pants at home. Hey, Scarlet, my cute, amazing, awesome, selfless, caring, loveable, talented niece, can I lend some money?"
Uncle Bruce grunts. The look in his expression tells me that he remembers the scene.
"And guess what? You borrowed that money from your poor, oh sweet niece. So you owe me," I say.
"Hey, it isn't my fault that your Aunt Audrey washed my jeans that my wallet is in. I forgot to take it out," he objects.
"But if wasn't for me you won't even have your job," I argue. "You will still be at that lame carpeting shop, selling used carpets, regretting you left your wallet in your soggy pants." There is a long silence. Then, he finally speaks.
"Do you promise to make sure I don't get fired?"
"Positive."
"Ok, I will do it." He nods in approval.
Convinced Uncle Bruce to show the video on his show. Check!
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I gush excitedly.
"Yeah, yeah." He shoos me away.
Now Operation 102: Find Cheater's Mystery Girl.
I wave bye to Uncle Bruce and his cat, Mittens. He had Mittens ever since he moved to Canada, which was ten years ago. He found her at the carpeting place I mentioned in my argument.
Something was lurking around the shop at closing time. He heard rustles and scratching, so he went to investigate. He found a stray kitten, hobbling under a messy pile of carpet. The kitten's leg was crippled badly, so he took her to the vet the next day to get her checked up. After when she was healed, he released her into the wild and went back home. Somehow, she followed his car and scratched on his door. He was not much of an animal lover, let alone owning a kitten. But everywhere he went the kitten followed, like they had some bond between them. Aunt Audrey found out about the kitten when she found it in her flower patch of tulips. She was a kitten-lover so in a snap, she let it in their house. Uncle Bruce did not like the idea of some wild animal in their house, no matter how harmless it was. However, Aunt Audrey begged to differ. She named it Mittens since its fur was as soft as a cozy warm mitten. Mittens were surprisingly disciplined so Uncle Bruce does not mind having her around. He learned to care for her-filled her bowl, cleaned her litter box and got her some leftover play toys from the carpeting shop. When I first met Mittens, I fell in love. Her fur was so sleek and gray as the clouds are in a thunderstorm. Her emerald green eyes, like mine, shimmered in the light. I cuddle up with her every chance I can get.
Every time I see her she seems to get bigger and plumper, but her eyes seem wiser and more mature. She does not have any kittens because she has not found her mate. She is so lonely, even having only Uncle Bruce to comfort her, but I know there is a lot more loneliness than meets the eyes.
I walk to my house, which is several blocks away, but I do not mind because it is a good way to lose calories. I enjoy walking through my neighborhood. The sounds and the sights are amazing. It is not like the countryside, where there are farm animals and tractors. My neighborhood is more modernized, of course, but the swaying of the trees in the wind and the rushing cars passing by filled me with comfort and pleasure. It makes me feel as if I am not alone.
