Any minute now. The world will see his wrongdoings. We put the video tape into the projector and get the seats ready. The stage is all set up and ready to be live to the whole province. All we are missing is Eric. The audience is chatting amongst themselves. It is a big group today so that is good...even more humiliation. I simper to myself, thinking about how his face will look. Yet, a part of me feels bad for him. I know this is stooping to probably Victoria's level, almost, but I also know if we do not do this, Eric will continue his cheating to other girls. Therefore, if we embarrass his dignity he will learn that cheating is the wrong path in life.
"Where is he?" Nicole asks, worried. "The show's going to start soon."
"It's okay," I encourage her. "He'll come. I made sure of it."
You do not want to know.
"See?" Marilyn adds. I invited the entire 5ies to come along for the fun. None of them wants to miss a good opportunity of shaming the guy who hurt one of the members, but Marilyn is not so sure, given that she is the "nice" one. "She made sure of it."
"You have nothing to worry about," Holy states. "Right?"
Now I am getting anxious. The show is beginning right now. I have the headset guy counting down. "Right," I say, unsure. C'mon Eric, hurry. Hurry! We do not want you to miss this unforgivable episode.
"I see him!" Leo claims, pointing at the guy with blue jeans and forest green Henley shirt. I have to admit, Eric is good looking, but if he did not cheat on my friend, I might have fallen for his good looks.
"Cupcakes!" I yell the secret code. Uncle Bruce does not go very well with cupcakes, just like how he does not go very well with cheaters. They just twist his stomach into a million knots. They bring out the...wild side of him. He tells me if he enters the room I have to give him the signal to get the video ready until his next cue.
The music begins to play some really cheesy theme song. I strum my finger on my thigh to the beat. It is quite catchy. When I first heard it, I was addicted to it so I download it to my MP3 player and hum to it every day for the last two months. It caused a lot of annoyance and trouble. Let's just say, I was singing aloud like every single day. Anyway, Nicole bounces on stage. She sits on the seat beside the host. "Hey, Carl"—the host's name—"I am Nicole and this is my first time on the show," Nicole says.
"It is nice to meet you Nicole. We're glad to have you," Carl greets with unnecessary enthusiasm.
"Oh, I know," she jokes.
The audience chuckles. Her first impression is going great, especially for someone who is shy around strangers.
"On Animal Planet this week, there is a documentary on elephants about their life style," Carl explains the topic. "How do you feel about the elephant's mating strategies?"
Nicole clears her throat and answers, "I feel the elephants' mating strategies are much more different and complex than our human strategies. Male elephants are just mating because they want to have as many offspring as they can to carry their genes, so they can pass it on. But if we humans kept dating with more than one person," she exchanges knowing glances with Eric. His face seems generally puzzled. "We might feel jealous or betrayed." Eric's face gradually changes into an uneasy expression.
I chortle. This prank is going to be so worth it! I can feel it.
"Yeah, I know because my boyfriend will never do that to me," she empathizes on the never. "And a matter of fact, he is in the audience right now." He has a retreating look on his face, almost sliding out of his chair.
"Go on stage!" Marilyn shouts.
"C'mon, lover boy!" Leo makes kissy noises. "Go up with your girlfriend!"
