-- Bailey's POV--
I must admit, Scotty is much different than I thought he would be. "Okay y'all next we are going to walk on the field! Please be sure you don't pull up any grass." I announced as I led the group down the stands and onto the field. "Wow this is nice!" Someone commented as I watched everyone's reactions. I always loved it when someone came here for the first time. "They really did all this for softball?!" Scotty asked sounding a little bit too surprised. I put my hands on my hips. "And why wouldn't they do it for softball?" I asked staring him down. Thankfully the others were down checking out the dugout so they couldn't hear us.
Scotty looked at me and smirked. "I'm sorry.. I just don't think softball is a real sport.." He explained and I shook my head. "And why do you think that?!" I asked. "I just.. I just..." He stammered looking at me. "Spit it out cowboy." I ordered. "I guess there really is no reason.. I just don't think it is." He answered as he took off his hat and wiped some sweat off his forehead. I looked away and led him into the dugout.
"Okay y'all! We are going to go back to the locker rooms and to the training rooms." I said with enthusiasm discarding the conversation I just had with Scotty. We walked into the locker rooms and everyone looked around. I stood crossing my arms as Coach Phillips walked into the locker room.
"Hey Bailey! I figured you guys would be in here!" He said walking over and giving me a hug. Coach Phillips has always been like a father to me. I could tell him anything and he would always tell me the right thing to do. I looked at Scotty who was watching us hug.
Ladies and gentlemen the mastermind of the team. Coach Phillips." I said with pride as he smiled and said hello. "Hey everyone! How're y'all liking your tour? And I would love to take credit for these wins, but I gotta be honest there wouldn't be a team without our star first baseman standing right here. You all are a lucky group to be getting a tour from Akrons finest!" He announced with more pride than anyone I have ever seen.
-- Scotty's POV--
I can't believe Bailey is the star player of the team.. I mean I feel like a complete jerk putting down the thing she loves most. I looked at the ground as the coach began spilling stories of things that Bailey has done. All of which were good. The way that he talked of her was the way which a father would, and I began to understand the relationship they have.
"Well Bailey I should let you get back to all of these wonderful folks! Y'all have fun, and ask Bailey to show off some of her hitting skills in the batting cage!" He said waving to all of us and walking into his office. "Okay y'all follow me to the training area!" Bailey announced as she led us through a pair of double doors and down a long hallway.
When she opened the next door and we all walked in, I couldn't believe how big this place is! It was the size of two football fields, and one of the areas was marked off with batting cages and weight sets. The other half was just a field. This was phenomenal.
"What do y'all think?" Bailey asked us all as she stood in front of me. "Wow! This is too cool." Matt said winking at her. I saw her blush and I could feel myself getting mad at Matt. I gave him a look as Bailey turned and walked to the equipment closet and carried out some helmets and bats.
"Who wants a go?" She asked as everyone stood and looked away and she smiled. "Come on y'all don't be shy!" She said looking around. "I'll go." I finally said as she looked at me. "Okay Scotty. There's the spirit!" She rooted as she handed me a bat and helmet. She led me into the batting cage as everyone gathered up around outside.
"Okay Scotty relax. You got this." She said giving me a pat on the back and heading up to the machine. She flipped it on and I gave her a look. She can't seriously think I won't hit this ball that is as big as a watermelon. She smiled and shouted, "How fast do you want it?" I thought a moment and smiled back. "Whatever you can hit."
