As soon as Fëanor arrived in Middle Earth, in the middle of Years of Trees, Maedhros choosed to leave his father in order to discover the land. He traveled so far in the East that he arrived in the region of Eriador, near a great river between mountains and forest. Near this river, he had a campment of elves, among them was standing a beautiful lady with golden hair. The only one among all other dark haired elves. A group of Ñoldors, who arrived earlier than him and his father, in the land which would be called Middle Earth.

The lady with golden hair was named Elarinya. She was a noble maiden born in Valinor, who sailed a century earlier than him and who settled her camp here, between moutains and forest, after leaving in Brethil were some of their people choosed to remain. These five hundred Ñoldor elves settled here, landless, and were living in peace with other elvish races like Teleri and Sindar. Maedhros agreed with this idea, supporting it. This woman, Elarinya, was an exemple to follow for him. So much that he wanted to know her more than he already did. He spend a long time with her and, after some years, married her in Brethil where they lived for a while before moving again to Eriador. Elarinya gave him a son and a daughter, named Eglerion and Estelwen, twins.
