Maedhros and Elarinya lived secretly in Eriador, bellow the hills of Ered Luin in a small Elven Village named Nênlâd, founded as they married in the West Eriador. Fëanor refused to approve their union, he refused to recognize that his son was married, and refused to treat his possible children as his descents because they were not born with his agreement. The fate of Maedhros' children was already known by other elves. These children would always be considered by bastards by Ñoldors until the death of their king. As Fëanor would be alive, noone of Maedhros' children would be considered like to be his.

Maedhros began to travel in the East and left his wife with his brother Maglor to arrive in Rhovanion, where he settled another camp of Ñoldor elves in a lake between waterfalls, moutains and an enormous forest. He called this place Ailinosto, or Lands of Waterfalls, and ordered his people to build a realm here, in a friendly place with Sylvan elves of the forest in the East. As he came back from his journey in the East, he discovered that he had left his wife pregnant, and that she had two children of him. A son named Eglerion and a daughter named Estelwen. They were young, standing behind their mother, holding her silk dress while, contemplating their father they never saw before this day. Surprised by him, scared of his reaction, they looked at him.

"- Am I a father of these two elflings ? " Maedhros asked his wife

"- Yes you are. " Elarinya answered with a bright smile

"- Then, my children, come and see ada. "

Maedhros knelt and rose his hand toward his children. Eglerion was the first one who ran to his father. He bent in front of him, Maedhros gently embraced his son. This young boy had a the strenght he had when he was younger, he had no fear of him. Maedhros turned his head on Estelwen who was holding her mother's hand, shyly looking at her father. He was looking at her with eyes filled with hopes and emotions. His children, who were nearly at the age of twenty three, were standing in front of him. He rose his hand to Estelwen to invite her to come closer, she placed her little fingers on it and carefully walked to her father, curtseying. She had his grey eyes and, somehow, his lips. These details made Maedhros consider what he left so long ago.

"- It is a pleasure to meet you, adar... " the child muttered

"- It is a pleasure to meet you too, lellig. "

The happiness in Maedhros' eyes was so powerful that the Ñoldor elf quickly caught his daughter in his arms and embraced her closely. She shivered, but let her little hands catch a piece of her father's clothing. Maedhros left his hands stroke her little back, the little girl calmed down. As his brothers learnt about the existence of his children, they urged to arrive to Nênlâd in order to celebrate their older brother's life. Fëanor did not come to see them. He refused, thinking that they were bastards, made by an union which wasn't desired by him at all. His curiosity made him spy them once he arrived in Eregion, but his disgust toward his son's decisions made him regret what he did. The rumors about the twins were providing their rank. The boy said like to be strong as his father, and extremely outgoing. The girl was known for her beauty and early wisdom which seduced a big part of elves.

Once Fëanor arrived in Nênlad, he looked closer to the place where he son was living. The dust was showing a beautiful purple sky with orange clouds which made this little elven town look even more marvelous between the mountains. Fëanor walked to the waterfall and noticed Estelwen in front of it, collecting some flowers to offer to her father. As she heard him, she turned herself to Fëanor and bent. The Ñoldor king went closer and took a piece of her blond hair between his fingers with a sigh. It was the same wavy hair his son had. Estelwen was quiet toward him, she did not know who this tall elf and simply left herself to him.
