"Oh...uh...Hi there, Finn" I say a little embarrassed. I can feel my face start to heat up a bit.
He yawns and kind of nods to me looking off towards the professor. Well, that was awkward. I take notes during the class and am very aware of Finn next to me. Out of the corner of my eye I see his long, but bony hands writing notes as well, but then notice they aren't notes.
He's drawing an incredible picture of a spark dragon. It's got long electric wings and has amazing detail. He notices me looking and kind of covers his art.
"It's embarrassing, don't tell anyone" He looks at me serious.
"Your secret is safe with me!" I give him a quick peace sign.
He raises his eyebrow, "you're a little different than the girls here"
"Do I take that as a compliment or..." I eye him suspiciously. Another guy I used to like told me I was weird and I hated him after that. I hope Finn wasn't the same.
"Yeah, you're different in a good way. I like it"
I stare at him blankly for saying such a bold statement when we still barely know each other. He looks back at me for a moment and quickly swings his head the other way. I also look away from him. I wonder what he meant by that.
Finn turns back to look at his drawing and closes his notebook. He sits back in his chair and lazily listens to the professor teach about gargoyles and how they used to fight in wars.
Finn and I didn't talk the rest of the two hour class, and thank god because I was blushing the whole time. He said he liked me! Well, liked that I was different, but that's still me.
When class was over he told me he would see me around and left ahead of me in a rush. Weird. I pack my backpack and walk toward my next class.
Throughout the hallways was row after row of open windows looking out over the plains. I walked slowly taking my time peacefully grasping all the beautiful scenery before me. I couldn't understand how people were in a rush when we were living in a place like this.
Abruptly, I bump into a hard object in front of me. I look up and see a towering man turning around to look down at me. He had a long, curly beard and poking out in front of him was none other than Phoebe again.
"Sorry there little girly. Didn't hear you there" The giant said politely.
"It was my fault for dozing!" I correct him. He smiled down at me with puffy cheeks. He seemed sweet.
Phoebe mouths to me He's blind, and continues like normal, "'Sup Summer, ready for tonight?" Phoebe asks calmly, yet provokingly.
"No, I'm not, because I don't even know what it is" I sound kind of grumpy.
"Are you talking about Steph's surprise birthday party?" The giant asks innocently.
"Dangit. Dirgah, you totally ruined the surprise"
"Isn't it only a surprise for the birthday boy?" Dirgah seriously questions. It looks as if he's nervous if he did something upsetting.
"Yes, but I wanted it to be a surprise for the newbie"
"Newbie? Oh deary me! This is yer beloved sister you always talk about! Hello thar Summer, I'm Dirgah!" The giant introduces.
"Hi, I'm Summer--I guess you already know that" I reply shyly.
"If ya need anythin from me, just let me know! I live in that little cottage ya see over thar" He points out of one of the windows toward a cute little cottage a few yards down throw a pebbled road, "yer sister always been sneakin into it since I known her"
Phoebe, embarrassed, starts shoving Dirgah away, "Alright Summer, since you know the plan already, be at the top of Hogwarts at 10pm!"
I frown at her, "isn't that past curfew?"
"Don't be such a wuss, it'll be worth it--trust. Plus Finn will be there" She replies, wiggling her eyebrows mischievously.
I roll mine, "shut up"
"I gotta plan things out but I'll see your tonight and wear something cute!~" She grabs Dirgah's hand and walks out the stone wall toward his cottage.
"Nice to meet yer, Summer!" Dirgah waves and leaves with Phoebe.
Something cute, huh? Throughout the rest of my classes I wonder what I should wear tonight rather than paying attention to what we were learning in our mythical creatures class. Something about werewolves and what do to when encountering them. But I just brush it off excited and nervous for the evening to come.
