One phone call.
That is all it took.
One phone call.
One phone call and he told me it was all settled. I could go with him, work for his government.
I am already sad to be leaving. Not that I am having second thoughts. It is high time that I leave this place. After all, they have only hurt me here. But it's still the only place I've ever really known and for all the bad moments there were good ones too.
Long walks in the park with Ivan imagining what life could be.
A Day spent dangling from a tree with Alexei next to me.
Even if I didn't know it then I was happy.
I will miss my home.
I am so wrapped into my own thoughts I don't realize Clint walked in and is now standing next to me.
"Natasha."
"Yeah."
"Extraction comes in one hour."
I nod slowly.
"I know it's hard," He says sitting next to me, "and I know you don't know me and what I say doesn't mean much but I think you made the right choice."
I sigh and nod again.
"Any questions?"
I am about to shake my head no but think better of it, "Will I always miss it?"
"I don't think you will ever stop."
"Thanks for being honest."
"I saw no point in lying."
I smile. I just having a feeling we are going to be great friends. Most of my friendships don't work out too well. I think of Alexei and Mariya who both ended up dead. If you think about most of the people I have had any kind of relationship with is dead. Except for one. Except for...
"Clint."
"Yeah Nat."
"I need to take care of something. I'll be back before they come."
He looks at me doubtfully. Trying to figure out if I am having second thoughts or am planning to betray him.
"What do you need to do? I can help."
"No. I need to take care of it."
"Okay. Go but be careful."
"I will." I say but I have no such plan.
I run out leaving all of my weapons behind. I won't need them for this. I don't know where to go but have a feeling she will find me.
I'm right.
I hear shuffling in a dark ally way behind me. The shuffling comes closer and closer. Her form becomes clearer.
"Yelena."
She steps into the light. She looks awful. Her face is streaked with blood and tears. Her hand looks broken. She walks with a limp.
She glares at me, "Why are you here?"
I don't respond right away. I am still thinking of an answer.
Why am I here?
Why do I still care?
I can't remember why I wanted to save her so much but now it is only important that I do.
"Why are you here!" She screams more tears roll down her check mixing with the blood.
I stay silent. "You won! I failed! You've taken everything that matters. You don't even want it."
