He is shocked, beyond shocked. He sees the machine gun in my hand and yanks it away. I am angry for a moment but keep my cool. I have to prove that I don't need any more injections. That I don't need them to create a fake me. I can do my job without any of that. I give him a quick sideways glance to tell him that I am annoyed. What kind of person yanks a machine gun away from an eleven-year-old?
I hand Ivan the leather satchel filled with lots of intel.
He leans down to take it from me and whispers something to me, "Can you act like a normal 11-year-old?"I nod and this infuriates the captain.
"What did you say to her?" He demands.
I can kind of understand. He was probably lied to about what he was doing here. Before Ivan can answer I start crying and blubbering in Russian. He said normal 11 years old. I am assuming I might be traumatized. And crying will get me out of this situation. Ivan squeezes my hand. This means I have done well.
The captain looks kind of unsure how to handle this. "Do you got her?"
Ivan nods.
"Okay then let's move out."
He leads the way out and we follow. The other American soldier is close behind. A large guy with a big scruffy beard and wild dark hair. He is actually dressed like a soldier.
We run into what looks like a break room with showers and lockers. There is a vent in the middle of the floor. Captain America pulls it off and motions for us to go through. The American soldier goes first and then gives the all clear sign. Ivan drops me in and jumps in after me. The captain comes and replaces the vent.
How did I not see this on the blueprints?
We are in a sewer area. The water goes up a little above my knees. It's not a lot for the others, they move easily through it. I struggle but manage to keep up. I've had to do worse.
After about maybe a mile of walking, we reach another vent. This one opens up in the middle of a forest. It's night. I figured it would be. Smart people don't go on secret rescue missions in the middle of the day. Ivan gives me a boost out and then climbs in after me. After splashing through all that I am soaked and it is very cold. I don't mind too much and complaints are irrelevant. Ivan seems to have come prepared though and takes out my black suit. I smile at him and change before the two Americans are even out of the Sewer.
The captain seems surprised by the change of clothes but doesn't say anything. He just looks nervously at the handgun and knife that I am still carrying. I glance innocently at him. "Thank you so much for rescuing me."
Ivan smiles at me. I said the right thing.
"It was... no problem." Both of the Americans shift awkwardly, the one in normal military attire shrugs.
I am not sure why it is that makes them so awkward. Maybe it's the weapons. Or the fact that this was probably not their original mission. Or maybe it's unnerving how great my American accent is.
I smile. It's probably all of the above. Despite the danger, I am enjoying myself. I have been dying to practice my accent. I kind of like the American accent. It is hard and sharp, like Russian but it is just so different at the same time. Maybe I will keep this one.
I turn to Ivan, "Whats the extraction plan."
He gulps, "Well... there isn't one. Not here at least we have to get to the mainland first."
This outrages the Americans. Frankly, I am shocked too.
"What!" The captain fumes, "I was told a plane would come here once the mission was complete."
