................................................................................................................................

" There is a legend. A legend of a heart shaped tree. You will find the person you are destined to be with under this tree and you will be bound together forever"

Eve listened enraptured at the words her mother spoke. Her dreams that night were of her finding the tree and finding her one true love.

..........................................................................................................................................................................

A day after her mother  had told her that story ,she died. The course of death so the doctor said was a broken heart as unbeknown to Eve, Maria had been from a very wealthy and noble family.

She had eloped and married a farmer due to love however her first born, son had been taken by the family to be the head of the household. The letter that had come had been to say there had been a mysterious fire at the family home and now her son and the rest of the family were dead. It had broken her mother and so she had died.

Eve surprised to learn in a day that she had, had a brother and also that he had died  was unsure how to react. Her father mourned and turned to drink , soon he gave up caring about he farm and slowly everything fell to ruin.

Days turned to weeks and weeks turned to years as Eve grew. She was the most beautiful girl in the village and worked the hardest. Working non-stop as her father continued to drink himself to oblivion. She worked in the bakery, did sewing and worked night and day on the farm, milking the cows, feeding the animals, making bread and cheese to sell at the market.

Her days were long and she often collapsed into bed, her bones aching with tiredness.

One summer's day as she worked in the field, she saw a horse and carriage pass. It was a nobleman's carriage for it was dark, sleek black with golden initials upon the doors.

Wiping a piece of sweat off her brow she watched as the carriage stopped at the farmhouse. Picking up her skirts she ran quickly back towards the house picking up a basket full of apples as she ran...

Getting to the house she saw a man, getting out of the carriage. She had not seen many men, but she knew this man was unlike any man she would see again or had seen before.

He was tall, much taller than her father. He had a cane that was as black as night , with a blue sapphire upon the top that gleamed in the sun. black shoes  and a long black cloak. It was his face though that made her somewhat speechless.

He had high cheek bones, and skin that was pale as snow. His eyes were golden like the sun and his hair in color matched her own.

"Sister"

He smiled warmly and before she could respond he brought her into his arms into a tight hug. He smelled like citrus as she breathed him in before taking a step back and pushing him away.

" But your meant to be dead"  she whispered.

"That's right I am. I have been in France since the family home burned to ash. I have enemies that would like to see me dead Eve, that's why I need you"

"What?"

"I need you, Eve as soon as they know I am alive they will come after me. I need your help in finding out who killed our family"

Eve stood stunned as there father suddenly appeared in the doorway.
