Hello everyone,

I wanted to write this because there is a tree down the road from where I live shaped like a heart and well... It inspired me to write this little short story....

Thanks for reading

Victorian England

Once upon a time... In a small little village, a little girl was born. Her name was eve. This little girl was as radiant as the sun and as bright as the stars that twinkled in the night sky.  With wide green eyes that liked to explore and blonde straight hair that fell down her back like water. She would always wear her hair half up, half down with a white ribbon.

Her mother was named Maria and she worked on the farm with her father. They were  very poor but if you were to ask the five year old Eve if they were happy then the answer would be yes.

Maria had the voice of an angel and would often sing to Eve at night before bed or tell her stories.

This particular night, it was a summers night. The air was cool and the moon hung like an orb in the sky, shining down a silvery light on the sleeping land below. Her father, a man named Thomas, a farmer by trade had just put away the sheep for the night. Eve watched him from the window in her room in her night dress.

As she watched, she saw her mother appear by her father's side a piece of parchment was in her hands.

Eve would always remember this moment as it was the first time she saw her mother cry. Watching as her father drew her weeping mother into her arms, she looked up to see a star that shone so brightly, twinkling up above.

"Dear god.If you are listening, then please make my mother stop crying. Thank you"

With that, she closed her eyes and wished hard. Opening them she found her mother and father had disappeared. A noise made her turn and her mother appeared in the doorway.

" Eve whatever are you doing by the window? get into bed this instance otherwise you will catch a cold"

Not being told twice she climbed into bed.

"Please tell me a story mother?"

Her mother gave a small smile but her eyes were sad. Eve hated to see her mother sad and wanted to take her mind  off of whatever was going on. Her mother sighed.

"I'm sorry Eve but tonight it will have to be a short one"

The little girl didn't mind as she made space for her mother to clamber into bed with her. When they were settled her mother started.

"Well... then... the story starts with a little girl and a heart shaped tree"
