Death walks amongst the living
Eve sat alone under the tree a little while longer, watching the silver moon slip across the starry filled sky. Her brother unnerved her, rattled her very soul, how did he have such a hold over her?
Deciding enough was enough, she got up. He would go back to London and she would forget his existance. I mean she had coped with thinking him dead for all these years so how hard could it be?
The back of her dress was damp and stuck to her, clinging to her now chilled legs. Breaking into a run she raced through the field of barley, feeling her heart pumbing in her chest and her lungs screaming against the cool night air, as it rushed into her filling her up.
Going at a steady pace she ended up at the front door in no time. The carriage was gone and all presence of her brother had disappeared as quickly as he had come.
Opening the door. She stopped.
"Father I'm home" she shouted it into the farmhouse but no one answered. She had expected to see her father in his drunkun state slumped by the fire where she had left him.
"Father " she said again stepping over the threshold fully into the house. The fire was crackling, casting an orange glow about the room. The dinning table was empty and Eve saw the blanket she had put her father in lying upon the floor. Going to pick it up she gently folded it over her arm.
A strange feeling that she couldn't explain travelled thorugh her body, at first starting at her feet and creeping up to her head.Something wasnt right...
Looking towards the stairs, she slowly climbed the house was errily quiet... the only sound was her footsteps as she creaked up the stairs onto the landing... she stopped again.
"Father"
Waiting for a reply she closed her eyes for a moment taking a deep breath as silence was her only response. Her father might have gone out to the local pub she thought to herself. There was a pub down the Lane called the "Jolly King" her father would sometimes spend whole days in there, until he was kicked out and she would come and find him sprawled out, lying on the pavement dead to the world.
But that thought didn't stop the fluttering in her stomach. The house was dark, lighting the gas lamps along the walls she crept towards her fathers room... maybe he was asleep.
Opening the door a jar, she peered into the gloom to find the room was empty. The moon shone through the window onto the white sheets of the bed and Eve realised it hadn't even been laid in. Closing the door again she frowned, this was most perplexing.
Going to her room, she sat on the bed and stared at the full length mirror opposite, wishing that it would be able to give her some kind of answer as to where her father had gone, but nothing. After all it was only a mirrior with her pale reflection staring back at her.

Oh Death
Not knowing when she had fallen asleep, she found herself being awoken by the blinding sun as it streamed through the window and onto her face. Stretching, she found her limbs ached. She couldn't remember her dreams from the night before but she knew they had been nightmares that had embraced her throughout the long night.
Going downstairs she expected to see her father but he was nowhere to be seen. Opening the front door she thought he might be asleep on the front doorstep but he wasn't there either. It had been raining in the night at somepoint, because the ground was wet with small puddles, the ground etched with dark spots where the small droplets had fallen.
Her gaze by chance, fell upon the old barn where her father used to house the animals. It hadn't been used in years not since her mother was alive. Now the barn sat empty, slowly falling into decay but what caught her attention was the fact the door was ajar.
Racing back inside she grabbed a shawl from her room and quickly covered herself, before running back down the stairs and rushing towards the barn.
Flinging the door wide open, she screamed as she saw her fathers lifeless body on the ground, covered in crimson blood. The blood seeped across the floor, stretching out like a circle around him. A single black rose lay beside him as well as a single black feather.
Falling to her knees she covered her mouth as the tears fell down her face like an endless river.
