A Short story about a girl called Eve
who sits and waits under the little Heart Shaped tree...
Welcome to the Legend of The Little Heart Shaped Tree....
# Yay gone down to 37th Ranking .. Thank you everyone :-) x
The carriage rolled through the countryside down the muddy lane.
Eve sat in the back of the carriage alone, feeling as bleak and as miserable as the passing grey scenery. The rain drizzled, running down the windows, she watched the drops slide in slow motion as the carriage made its way through the dismal, dark countryside towards London.
Her heart convulsed as she thought of what awaited her. She would be shown off like some kind of priceless ornament that her brother would sell to the nearest rich buyer.
Looking at the grey rolling clouds she sat back and closed her eyes hearing the hooves and the rattling of the wheels against the hard ground. Her heart physically hurt and her chest felt tight.
Her brother had decided to sell the farm, so she now had nowhere else to go but follow her brother to London.

When she opened her eyes. The dark countryside had disappeared and a jungle of houses met her gaze. Horses and carriages rolled past hers and her carriage rattled over cobbled stones. They passed green parks surrounded by black gates, a seclusion from the hustle and bustle of the city outside.
White terraced houses sat nestled side by side with black street lamps, polished the deepest black.
It was the air though that really affected her. It was dark, damp and the smell was pungent, covering her nose with her handkerchief. It smelt of a mass of bodies and creatures all mixed into one.
The carriage came to a stop.
"My Lady"
A young man appeared by the window. He smiled warmly at her. His blonde hair shone like the barley that she used to run through as a child. She felt the tears threatened to spill. Wiping her eyes quickly she gave him her best smile as he opened the door to the carriage and helped her down.
"We have been awaiting your arrival, Master has been anxious. He will be very pleased now that you have arrived safely"
He beamed at her with a smile that reached his glittering blue eyes. As she looked at him she felt herself feeling a lot more calm and a happiness ran through her. He wore a black butlers uniform with a black tie, waistcoat, and black gloves.
He bowed and picked up her luggage.
" My name is Gabriel. If you follow me, my Lady. I will take you to the Master"
She nodded and walked up the steps of the white terraced house. It had a small neat and tidy garden at the front with red roses trailing up the walls over the porchway. The front door was dark black with a golden knocker shaped like a ram's head.
A black lamp stood in the porchway, it flickered for a moment before turning itself off.
"I must get that fixed"
she heard Gabriel mutter under his breath.
The young man held out his hand for her to take as she stepped over the threshold. Her mouth fell open as she entered the vast hallway. Dark wooden polished floors and a white, snowdrop chandelier hung on the ceiling.
The walls were adorned with paintings. A wide dark staircase went upstairs to the upper floor on the right side of the hallway and a door led into what she assumed was a parlor.
Her shoes tapped gently on the polished wooden floor as the butler led her towards the back of the house.
"The Master is in the study"
He explained as if reading her mind. She just nodded, as she looked at the paintings upon the walls. One painting suddenly caught her eye, It was in a golden frame.
A small girl in a white flowing dress was sitting in a meadow surrounded by flowers. In her long golden hair, that was plaited down her back was daisies and on her head was a crown made of daisies. In her lap was a cat as white as snow, it was curled up in a ball. Her smile and luminous blue eyes captured Eve and the fact that in the distance behind her was the image of a heart shaped tree.
The sun beamed down upon the little girl and she held onto a white feather in her pale long fingers as above her head a shadow fell over the flowers beside her. A dark black crow soared almost life like above her, its eyes a deep red as it looked to fly straight into the girl.
Eve's attention returned to the room when she heard, the butler cough gently as he held the door open to her. Thanking him, she slid past him and entered the study where her brother sat behind an ornate dark, beech desk. Golden flowers were etched into the dark surface, as vines snaked their way up the desk's legs.
A quill pen was in his hand and golden glasses were on the hilt of his nose.
He looked up, the quill poised above the paper for a moment as he smiled at her, putting it gently down he stood up and came around to meet her, taking her into his warm embrace. She felt her heart quicken as his arms surrounded her.
"Sister" he whispered, his breath tickling her neck.
"There is much evil in this world and I am here to wipe it away"
