Authors note

Seriously I don't know what to say apart from this story is totally writing itself now! This book was only written because I passed the little heart shaped tree by my house. I found that I had to write today due to the fact I need to escape for the moment from my own life. This is why I love writing and acting and reading cause it can transport you to a completely different place. Anyway enough of this and back onto the story at hand.....

Hope you enjoy

Victorian England

The little tree stood a lonely figure in the middle of the field surrounded by silver barley that swayed in the gentle breeze. It was like Eve was being pulled towards it, like an unnatural and indescribable force was making her walk, making her take one step, then two until she was at the tree.

The words from her mothers story echoed in her head as she slowly reached out to touch the rough surface

The words from her mothers story echoed in her head as she slowly reached out to touch the rough surface. Feeling the knobbly bark underneath her  smooth fingertips.

The story of the woman obsessed by the tree and finding her true love.

sliding down the bark she sat on the cool damp ground not caring about getting her dress dirty. The stars flickered at her through the branches of the tree as if playing hide and seek with her.

The silver barley whispered in a secret language as it blew softly abruptly, it was interrupted by the sound of flapping  wings, turning her gaze back up to the black sky a shadow formed extinguishing the tiny lights of the stars as it blocked out there light.

A  shrill cry pieced the night air making her jump as the sleek black bird circled above her and the tree,  its cries, echoing out into the still night.

"I thought I would find you here"

A voice startled her out of the darkness, looking up she saw the pale face of her brother in the moonlight. His eyes were filled with sorrow as his gaze lingered briefly on the tree behind her. His voice had grown soft and gentle almost a whisper. He was dressed in his cloak and hat and in his gloved hand was a cane, the sapphire on the top shining blue in the light of the silvery moon.

His cheek was still red from where she had hit him and it made her regretful. Looking away she glanced back across the field and towards the lane to see the shadow of the bird disappear.

Feeling his gaze still upon her, she sighed she needed to clear the air between them and apologize for hitting him, as even though he was her brother this was the first time they had actually met. She opened her mouth to speak but he interrupted her.

"I will go back to London tonight." he said into the night, lifting off his hat and exposing his silk hair. It shone like a dazzling silver gem in the light of the moon, momentarily making her forget all her thoughts. How was her brother so alluring ? she thought and then she chastised herself for thinking that. He was her brother, she repeated it over and over like an ongoing mantra in her head.

Feeling flustered she stood up quickly and faced him, not really knowing what to say.

" I see." she said lamely, mentally kicking herself inside. "Well, I want to apologize to you. I shouldn't have slapped you."

She smoothed down her dress, and shuffled her feet avoiding his intense gaze.

"It's fine"

Whoa, what? she hadn't expected that, looking up she met his gaze by mistake and felt her heart contract as he suddenly gave her a devastating smile.

"They say that you will meet your true love underneath this tree... well that's the legend anyway" he ran a gloved hand through his hair and then took her hand, kissing it gently.

"Good bye sister"

Heya, Just a quickie... What are your thoughts on this chapter?

I am trying to make it slightly sinister. I really hope that's coming across? Let me know if it's not and I will turn up the volume for the next chapter. This is a short story, so it is nearly at the end. I really hope you have liked it so far.

Thanks for reading!!! Love you guys!!!
