A couple of days go by, and I'm beginning to feel better. Being here is like I'm getting closure or something. It's like when you break up with someone and you need to catchup, to talk about everything that happened. Put it in the past.Ever since the night in the paddocks, Harry and I haven't done anything more than kiss. I'm ok with that, though, it was a sacred night between us and now I wouldn't want to disrespect my grandpa even further.
As I'm reading my novel and Harry's in the kitchen cooking breakfast, there's a knock at the door. I look up at Harry to see an unsure expression on his face. I'm confused too. I'm not expecting anybody.
I get up from the couch and open the front door.
Well, fuck that.
It's my ex, Brad. Ugh, even his name makes me cringe.
We broke up when I graduated high school because he was a dickhead. I don't know why I was with him in the first place. He probably cheated on me numerous times, although I'll never know because he never told me anything. I was too naive back then.
"What are you doing here?" I ask him rudely. Then I shout out to Harry, "keep cooking, this won't take long," and shut the door. Harry's probably going to be worried, but I just want to get this loser out of here.
"Who's in there?" Brad asks me, craning his neck to try and see inside.
"You need to leave, Brad. I don't want to see you ever, let alone right now."
"I just came to say sorry, I heard what happened..." He looks down at his shoes. "I know I was an absolute prick in high school, and I treated you badly, so I wanted to come and say sorry for all of that, as well as your grandpa. I know you were close with him."
"Well, thanks for all of that, it was just lovely, but I didn't need you to come here. I wanted to be here, alone. How did you even find out I was here? Who told you?" I ask Brad.
"It was Kaia...but that doesn't matter. You're not alone, Eva. I heard you talking to someone. Who's in there?!" Kaia told him? I try to turn back for the house, but he grabs hold of me, with a large amount of force.
"Get off me!" I scream, and before I know it, Harry is running out to help me. He pulls me into his arms quickly.
"What the...is this a joke?! A fucking boy bander ! How the hell do you know this guy?! What a loser!" Brad laughs, but it's full of bitterness.
"I'll call the police if you don't get off this property now," Harry says, and I can see that he's staying calm. He's not the type to lash out and fight. Besides, if it got in the news, he would be done for.
Brad puts his hands up in surrender. "Gladly. Oh! Have fun you two...you truly make a great couple." He then stomps over to his car and speeds off.
"Who was that, Eva? Do I wanna know?" Harry asks me in almost a whisper.
"It was my ex boyfriend. Don't worry. He won't be back. I cannot believe Kaia told him we were here..." I really can't. She's supposed to be my best friend, and she rats me out to my ex? It doesn't make sense to me, that's for sure.
"Do you think he'll...you know...tell anybody-"
"That you're here? I hope not."
"I didn't mean it like that...it's just, we were having such a great time...I don't want to paps to be anywhere near us..." Harry pulls a piece of hair out of my face.
"We should probably go home today, anyway," I tell him, and we head inside to eat breakfast and pack up our belongings.
----------------------------------
We hop into the car once it arrives to pick us up, and I'm sad to go. I'll probably never come back, and that scares me. I've made so many memories here, as well as on this trip.
Harry falls asleep next to me so I decide to write in my journal for a little while. It wasn't my first time having sex in general, but it was still very special to me. Harry and I have a very special connection, and I'm scared that he doesn't feel the same. I think I'm going to have to talk to him properly about it. I don't know when that's going to happen, though.
Once I've finished writing my thoughts down, I pull out my phone from my nearby bag and text Kaia. She's got some explaining to do.
To Kaia: ...you told Brad that I was at my farm? thanks a lot
A few seconds later, a new message comes through.
From Kaia: I'm really sorry. it's a long story. I'll call you later x
So it's true. She did. I don't think I'll be able to face her. She knows how much of an arsehole Brad is so why would she tell him? What could she possibly have to say to defend herself? Do I want to know?
I decide to turn off my phone so nobody bothers me for the rest of the ride, and I snuggle Harry, who shifts his body to do the same to me.
-----------------------------------
Harry nudges me awake.
"Time to wake up," he says, warmly. I look out of the window, squinting my eyes at the sudden light, and realise that we are, in fact, at my apartment.
The thing that's surprising me, however, is the amount of people crowded around.
"What are all those people doing there?" I ask Harry, although it's not like he's going to know either.
"You don't think..." He begins, and I realise exactly what he's implying. What if Brad let out our secret? I honestly would not be surprised, especially with the way he stormed off my grandpa's property this morning.
"I wish I could say no," I reply with a saddened expression.
"Just walk past them all, and ignore it. They're going to twist the story either way, " he says, caressing my arm. "I had an amazing time with you these past few days...I'll never forget this." I kiss Harry goodbye and hop out of the sleek car, collecting my luggage as I go.
Soon enough, the paparazzi and other random people are swarming me, spitting questions in my ears. I can't breathe. I can't think. I just keep my head down and continue to walk.
I quickly pull my key out and unlock the front door, running inside to quickly close it again. I sink on to the floor and take a deep breath. It's over. At least for now.
All of a sudden there's a knock at the door. It sounds urgent, but it could easily be a pap. I can only just hear the voice, and it sounds like Kaia.
"Kaia?" I shout through the door, uneasily.
"Please let me in, I'm getting trampled," she shouts back to me, so I open the door.
Her face looks so guilty, her eyes are wet with tears, and to be completely honest, I'm pretty fucking scared to hear what she has to say.
