Jess and Leslie soon walked out of the Burke's property after a while. Jess looked back at the house, thinking about Bill's words towards him.
"So what's up with that just now?" Leslie started. She went ahead of him and then turned around, walking backwards.
Jess hid his hands inside his pockets and shrugged his shoulders. "It felt so tense in there..."Leslie smiled at him and then put her hands behind her back.
"You know, we could've brought May Belle with us right?"
A smirk grew on Jess's face as he thought of what May Belle must be thinking about now."She's fine. She'll probably just wander around or maybe walk back home if she gets bored with those adult talks."
Leslie laughed at his response and then looked behind them which used to be the road where the bus always goes through.
"Race you to the end of the road?" She smirked. "Like last time?""Isn't it obvious?" Leslie laughed, going into her stance. Jess did the same thing and then waited for her to say it.
"On your mark... Set go!"
Like when they were younger, they both raced together to who knows where the path would lead them, Leslie taking the lead quickly. After a while of running, they finally arrived at the end of the road.
"Told ya I'd beat you," Leslie told him with a laugh. She looked at him with a smile, seeing as how he was was panting. Even after 5 years... She still could run faster than him."Yeah, I've never bested you even once before." Jess responded with a sigh. It was strange how he's still slower than her despite being taller, having longer limbs and supposedly stronger muscles.
As they walked along the road with Jess taking the lead, they stopped at a certain area. There was a wooden bridge to cross to the other side, a small creak below the bridge.
"Come on," Jess gestured, walking across the bridge and going to the other side. Leslie looked at the bridge uneasily, feeling something in her before going through. When Leslie got to the other side, Jess suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled her along.
"Where are we going?" She asked innocently, just letting him pull her around like a lost child. Jess glanced over his shoulders and smiled.
"Terabithia."Passing through the forest, they finally reached the huge tree where they used to climb up to to see the whole Terabithia scenery.
"Come on!" Jess started climbing up, Leslie following him. He climbed quite easily as if he was just flying up, but Leslie climbed it with difficulty."Why are you climbing this so easily?" Leslie grunted, still trying to climb up to the top which Jess was already standing at the top, holding the branches to steady himself.
"It's the magic of Terabithia Leslie," he chuckled, helping her up."Jess, all I could see are mountains."
Jess raised his eye brow in question and then stroked her cheek. "Just close your eyes Leslie," he told her. She closed her eyes and then took a breath. "And keep your mind, wide open."
Leslie opened her eyes, but when she did, all she could see was the same scenery as she did before. Just mountains, hills etc.
She shook her head disappointedly.
"It's the same thing."Hearing those words, Jess stared at her with a surprised expression. She couldn't... Could she?
Jess opened his mouth, trying to find for words to tell her.
"You..." He said softly. "You can't see Terabithia anymore?"
