Fireworks

The head scientist pondered what to do with the sidekicks and that strange being that he'd never seen before. Dr. Desmond had requested an audience with the light to discuss the intruders; he was currently waiting for them to convene.
'The weapon told me that the girl used her watch to shape shift, how strange, I've never seen anything like this before. If I could control it than I could become the most powerful person in Cadmus! Even better I could combine the shape shifting with Project Blockbuster or even better yet, Project Doomsday'
Suddenly seven screens came down from the ceiling with blue circuitry as the 'screen saver' with the word Cadmus displayed in yellow at the bottom of each screen. Once they were all down, the screen saver changed to a silhouette on each screen.
"Dr. Desmond, why do you require an audience with the light?" One screen spoke with the voice of a man but, the voice was obviously filtered.
"Yes, very sorry to disturb you this late-"
"Just get to the point"
"Of course, we had a small fire here at Cadmus and the attention seems to have drawn intruders, three sidekicks and an unknown shape-shifter. Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad and the girl's ID read Alexandra Tennyson although, our Database has never heard of such a person existing anywhere. And neither does the town in which her ID originates. My question for you is... what should we do with them?"
"Go back, this girl, what are her powers?"
"The weapon that beat her, Project: Superboy stated that she could shape-shift with the use of her watch. Creatures we've never seen before. One with four arms and one made of crystals."
"Clone them, all four, remove this watch by any means and make it serve the light."
"Understood, oh and the source material?"
"Leave no trace"
"Understood"

'Time runs short, you must awaken, and you must awaken now!'
All four heroes woke with a gasp, the first thing they noticed was they were all bound by their arms and legs to an upwards table in some sort of pod, different from the ones that held Superboy. Speaking of whom was standing right in front of them staring relentlessly.
"What? What do you want?!" Kid Flash spoke up first "Quite staring, you're freaking me out!"
Superboy raised an eyebrow in response as Alex tried to cool things down.
"Easy Kid, we don't want to piss off the guy who can fry us with a look"
"Prepare the cloning procedure for the new Project: Sidekick" Dr. Desmond said to an assistant as he walked into the room. "This will work much better than the other weapon, we were only able to scrap up a small amount of blood from Superman but, from these individuals we can dissect and rip anything we may need strait from their bodies"
"Oh so not going to happen" Alex commented as she tried to move her wrist.
"It's pointless you're trapped, and even if you could escape the weapon wouldn't mind giving you another beating, isn't that right?"
Superboy didn't respond he simply grunted and turned around.
"Well if you're not going to help than get back in your pod" Desmond looked over to Guardian who had just walked in.
"Get it back in its pod, we'll wake it later if need be" Desmond turned around assuming his orders wouldn't be questioned. He was wrong.
"I don't see the problem in letting the kid stretch his legs" Guardian patted Superboy's shoulder who didn't respond but smiled very slightly at the man in gold.
"He's not a real kid, he's a clone, an it, and he doesn't need to 'stretch his legs' because his legs are artificial. Created here in Cadmus, that means he belongs to me... or Cadmus, same thing" Desmond walked forward and turned his shoulder so his G-gnome could hop onto his shoulder.
"Now get back in your pod like a good little weapon"
Superboy prepared himself to punch Desmond in the face hard enough to wake the doctor's ancestor. But just as he was about to the G-gnome's horns began to glow causing him to lower his fist and turn around.
Alex knew that this clone must have had super hearing, so she spoke in a whisper. "Is that what you want, to be controlled, manipulated? We can show you things that they refuse to. We can show you the sun; we can introduce you to Superman."
Superboy stopped walking to listen.
"We can make you part of something good, I don't care how much mind control they've tried on you, you were born from Superman's DNA that means the need to do what's right is in your blood. Do what's right Superboy, be a hero"
At those last words Superboy snapped and threw his G-gnome off of him and into the wall. Guardian grabbed him by the shoulder but, Superboy flicked him as lightly as possible in the temple and this knocked the hypnotized hero out cold. Superboy walked back into the room where Desmond tried to order Superboy out.
"What exactly do you think you're doing? I gave you an order! Now get back in your-" Superboy backhanded Desmond into a computer knocking him out. Desmond's assistant put her hands up and backed away gaining a smile from Superboy.
The clone leaped into the air landing on Alex's pod. He ripped off the shackles and set her free just as Robin managed to set himself free.
"Batman would have my head if he knew how long I took to get out of that" Robin said as he freed his other hand and jumped down to the floor where Alex, Kid Flash and Aqualad met him. Superboy walked up to them.
"Seriously? That's what you're worried about? The entire League is going to have our heads after tonight" Kid Flash said as they began running out the door.
Dr. Desmond got to his feet and saw that the cloning process hadn't even begun yet. He grunted angrily, "Activate every Genomorph in Cadmus" he said through his teeth, practically seething with anger.
The teens ran through the halls lined with giant orbs. Each one began glowing as they ran.
"That doesn't look good!" Alex yelled as they continued down the hall.
"We are still forty-two levels below ground, if we can make it to the elevator-" Aqualad was cut off by the sight of giant G-Trolls blocking their path, the same giant beasts from earlier.
"Oh boy" Robin commented as Kid Flash looked over to Alex who was examining the hall and its size.
"Alex we could really use Rath or XLR8 right now" Kid Flash spoke.
"This hallway is still too small for my stronger aliens, I'm gonna have to deal with what I've got"
"Last time you said that, Superboy beat us up" Aqualad mentioned as Superboy rubbed his neck.
"Sorry about that, let me make it up to you" Superboy jumped at the G-Troll and slammed his fist on his forehead causing it to fall over.
"That's more I like it!" Alex yelled as she slammed the Ultimatrix dial, another green glow engulfed the entire area. What came from the light was a green humanoid with a red and yellow head and a stench that could kill an elephant.
"Swampfire!" the alien announced as she formed balls of flame in her hands and tossed them at the beasts in front of them.
"Uh Swampfire!" Robin yelled pointing behind them; every glowing pod released a Genomorph of a different type.
"On it" the alien declared as she made a wall of flame between the army of creatures and themselves.
Swampfire ran towards the G-Trolls whom Superboy was barely managing to keep down. Swampfire jumped and slammed her fist on one of the G-Trolls horns and then landed on the ground below it. She placed her palm on the ground for no more than a second as giant green vines sprouted from the floor and wrapped themselves around the beast forcing it downward.
"That's what I'm talking about!" Kid yelled as he slipped his goggles over his eyes and sped over to Alex and Aqualad.
"Ready for that race?" Swampfire asked before slapping the dial on her chest and transforming into XLR8.
"Oh I'm so ready" Kid grabbed Robin and sped away while XLR8 grabbed Aqualad and followed. Superboy kept up with his own speed. As they dodged around Genomorphs at every turn.
They stopped at the elevator where Kid put Robin down and allowed him to hack through the door's security system and gained full access.
As they entered the elevator, Alex transformed back to normal and waited for the door to close. They just barely saw Desmond and Guardian running towards them so, Robin elected to wave as the door shut in their face.
"Take the stairs cut them off on the ground floor, don't let them leave!" Dr. Desmond walked towards the stairs.
"What about you?"
"I'm heading to Sub Level 41 to use the elevator than I'm headed to Sub Level 2 to pick up a special present from Project: Blockbuster"

After some silence Kid Flash began to whistle as there was no elevator music playing. This caused Alex to start whistling the same tune. Suddenly Robin joined in as well as they passed Sub Level 20. Superboy grunted in frustration and everyone ceased whistling immediately. The elevator stopped at Sub Level 8.
"What the hell?" Kid Flash asked as he kicked the monitor to no avail.
"They manually shut down the elevator line, to be honest it was only a matter of time" Robin stated as Superboy pried open the elevator doors and walked into the hall which was now a normal metal hallway, lacking of flesh like wallpaper.
"Stairs" Superboy pointed as they all filed through the door and Kid Flash immediately sped up every flight.
"Kid wait!" Alex yelled out as the speedster stopped at Sub-Level 1 which was the last flight of stairs.
Superboy jumped up the middle of the stairs without a second thought. 'He reminds me of Kevin'
Alex flew up and turned to Aqualad and robin "I'm gonna head up there and see what's up, you guys catch up when you can"
After receiving a nod from both heroes, she flew upwards and landed on the floor on Sub Level 1.
Desmond was the only thing standing between the teens and freedom, just as Alex was about to transform, the others arrived. With their arrival, they brought a sudden nervousness to Desmond who gulped loudly but smiled with a sinister grin.
"You think you have power? I'll show you power!" Desmond popped the cork on the vile and took it in with one shot.
Seconds later, Desmond began holding his stomach in pain as his body twisted and deformed, growing huge nearly fifteen feet tall. His skin turned a sickening grey color while splitting in some spots revealing the fleshy muscle underneath. His eyes turned crimson red and his lab coat tore off of him.
"You guys go, Superboy and I can handle him" Alex said with a serious tone.
"I don't think Diamondhead can handle that guy" Kid Flash said with a sheepish voice.
"Naw there's plenty of room here, why go small? When I can go hero!" Alex slammed the dial and let the familiar feeling overtake her as her DNA was rewritten her body and size changed dramatically.
In Alex's place was a giant brown humanoid dinosaur with bright green eyes and the Ultimatrix symbol displayed on its chest.
"Meet Humungousaur!" the alien bellowed as she looked Blockbuster in the eye and basically sized him up.
"Well, we'll leave you to it" Robin said as they headed for the exit.
Blockbuster noticed this and turned towards them but, didn't get to finish whatever he had planned due to him being right hooked in the face by Superboy.
"Your fights over here, ugly!" the boy of steel screamed as he threw a left hook that slammed into Blockbusters jaw sending him off his feet and a few feet away.
"Wanna get in on this?" Superboy yelled at Humungousaur who cracked her knuckles in response.
Blockbuster through a punch that connected with Humungousaur's chin knocking her backward. The dino grunted in response, throwing a punch that knocked the behemoth into the wall. Blockbuster stood only to be knocked back down by Superboy, which was followed by Humungousaur's fist crushing Blockbusters face into the concrete wall. Several devastating punches later, Blockbuster caught Humungousaur's fist and threw a punch of his own sending her through a line of pillars that supported the building.
Superboy jumped at Blockbuster who caught the half kryptonian by the arm and whirled him around and tossed him into a recovering Humungousaur knocking them both over.
Blockbuster was about to throw another punch but was stopped by a grappling line wrapping around his arm suddenly.
"Not so fast gruesome" spoke Robin as he and Aqualad held his arm back.
Blockbuster didn't seem impressed as he yanked them both over to him effortlessly and sent a bone crushing jab into Aqualad's face knocking him through several pillars and into the ground.
Robin ducked under Blockbuster and placed several exploding Bird-a-rangs at his feet before back flipping out of the way and letting the explosion cover his face before sending more into his back.
The explosions barely fazed him as he grabbed the boy wonder and tossed him aside. Just as Blockbuster was about to turn his attention back to the strongest two he was met by two fists to the face. One Kryptonian and One Vaxasaurian sending him through several more pillars and nearly knocking him unconscious. But no such luck as the creature stood once more releasing a mighty roar of rage.
Superboy charged the beast but this time he caught Superboy mid-swing and tossed him through the ceiling and onto the ground level. He looked up and roared once more giving chase to the half-kryptonian.
Humungousaur sighed when she heard the ultamatrix starting to beep changing her back.
"Kaldur?" Alex asked as a limping Robin approached him with Kid Flash as his crutch.
"Out cold, why did you transform back?" Kid asked as he saw that Alex was slightly injured. "And let me guess you keep the damage that your transformations receive?"
"It wasn't always like that but, yea. And it's a device" Alex raised her arm revealing the Ultimatrix "It runs on a self-sustaining battery, it will run out on me like it just did. It needs some time to recharge."
Loud crashes and destruction could be heard from the floor above.
"We have to go help" Alex said making a mana platform.
"Take a look at this" Robin said as he opened up his scan of Blockbuster. "That serum put him through a metamorphosis which is... whatever but, look at his adrenalin levels"
They all looked at the levels and were surprised to see the numbers. "Whoa, that's over ten times as much as an Olympic athlete!"
"I know I'm surprised his heart hasn't ceased from all the pressure, it has to be the transformation that changed his body to suit the massive adrenalin levels. And when you and Superboy punched him over, his adrenalin doubled. Hence why he was able to take Superboy on like it was nothing."
Speaking of which more loud thuds and screaming could be heard from both parties
Alex moved them all to the floor above and flew over to super boy slapping Desmond away from Superboy with mana
"Took you long enough, what? Did you stop for a coffee break?"
"They want me to make his adrenalin go up till he has a stroke"
"Do it!" Superboy yelled "If we can't take him down than what choice do we have!"
"We do not kill!" Alex yelled in anger "We're better than him! We don't need to kill to take our enemies down!"
"Aqualad I need you to spray him with water" Alex yelled
"Vitalis eruptum" Alex yelled as vines grew out of the ground restraining Desmond
Aqualad soaked Desmond in water
"Get back" Alex yelled her eyes glowing "tempestuous impaetous" she yelled the guys saw Desmond get struck by lightning and collapse onto the ground
They slowly walked out of the building and collapsed on the ground outside. Concrete had never been so comfortable but, this didn't stop Superboy from staring up at the moon, it was full and more beautiful than any psychic image Cadmus could have provided.
"Well, its 1:22 in the morning so the suns not out yet but, hey I showed you the moon, that has to count for something right?" Kid Flash said while lying on his back on the sidewalk. Just as he said this the entire building of Cadmus began collapsing in on itself causing everyone to shield their eyes from the dust.
"Guess those pillars were important huh?" Robin asked Alex who chuckled.
As they settled onto the concrete for some well-deserved rest, Superboy noticed something coming from the sky.
"Guys" Superboy said slowly pointing up to the now visible person floating towards them. Suddenly there was more than one person in fact there were many people slowly approaching them.
The entire Justice League arrived one by one including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, two flavors of Green Lantern, Captain Marvel, Martian Manhunter, Zatara, Black Canary, Flash, Aquaman, Red Tornado, Hawk man and women, Captain Atom, and Green Arrow all arrived either by flying themselves or a Green Lantern using a construct to carry them.
After arriving silence befell the heroes but none were more surprised than Superman when Superboy stepped forwards and pulled his ripped 'S' shield up and revealed it to everyone.
Batman spoke first "Is that what I think it is"
Alex stepped forward "Actually he's not an 'it'"
"I am the clone of Superman... I am Superboy"
Superman took a step back with eyes widened but collected his composure when Batman placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Start talking"

After explaining everything that happened Superman, Batman, Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman gathered into a group and began discussing what had happened, Alex's abilities, and what to do with Superboy. That was until Manhunter caught Superboy staring at Superman causing him to place a hand on the man of steels shoulder, glancing over at the clone. Superman sighed and walked over to Superboy.
"I... We'll figure something out for you, the League will... I mean. I better make sure they get that Blockbuster creature squared away" with that the man of America took off and once he had reached a high enough altitude, he reached Super Sonic speeds in seconds to catch up with the group who was handling Blockbuster.
"As for you" Batman referring to Alex. "I want a detailed list of your aliens and their abilities"
"Kent's my mentor, not you" Alex replied crossing her arms across her chest.
"End result aside, we are not happy"
"You should've called!" Flash chimed in.
"You hacked League systems, disobeyed direct orders, and endangered lives as well as your own. You will not be doing this again" Batman said
"I am sorry, but we will" Aqualad said as the five heroes stood together crossing their arms.
"Aqualad stand down" Aquaman ordered.
"Apologies my king... but, No"
This caused Aquaman to raise an eyebrow.
Alex stepped forward "We did good work here today, the work you trained them to do. The work Kent trained me to do. The kind of work that I've been doing since I was 9 years old and yeah, it got messy, but no mission goes exactly as planned."
Kid Flash leaned over to Robin and whispered "We didn't have a plan right?"
Robin responded by elbowing him in the abdomen.
"Today we formed something powerful, a team" Aqualad announced.
"If this is about you're treatment at the Hall, the three of you-" Flash started.
"The five of us" Kid Flash corrected "And it's not"
Robin stepped forward "Batman we're ready to use what you taught us" Robin let his arms fall to the side "Or why teach us at all?"
"Why let them tell us what to do?" Superboy said from behind everyone, he stepped forwards in front of Robin and crossed his arms once again. "It's simple. Get on board or get out of the way"
"What he said only nicer" Alex commented as they stood in a horizontal line.
Batman narrowed his eyes in defeat.
...
Mount Justice; Happy Harbor.
3 days later.
"This cave was the original Secret Sanctuary of the Justice League" Batman stated as all five heroes were joined in the center of the hall in their civilian clothes all except for Alex and Superboy who had a black T-shirt with the red 'S' symbol on it and Alex who had on her cloak from Kent. "We're calling it into service again, since you five are determined to stay together and fight the good fight... You'll do it on League terms"
The other heroes in the room included Red Tornado, Black Canary, and Aquaman.
"Red Tornado has volunteered to live here and be your supervisor and Black Canary is in charge of training. I will deploy you on missions" Batman continued.
"Real missions?" Robin asked.
"Yes but, covert"
Flash commented "The League will still handle the obvious stuff, there's a reason we have these giant targets on our chest"
"But Cadmus proves the bad guys are getting smarter, Batman needs a team that can operate on the sly" Aquaman said turning to Batman who had more to say.
"The six of you will be that team"
"Cool! Wait six?"
Batman looked up towards the teleporters which had just died down as two figures walked towards them. One being Martian Manhunter and another being a shorter girl with long red hair and green skin, she had just a splash of freckles on the bridge of her nose and cute brown eyes.
"This is the Martian Manhunter's niece; she has elected to call herself Miss Martian, she will join you on this team"
"Hi" she waved casually to the others.
"I like this gig more every minute" Kid Flash stated as he zoomed next to her "I'm Kid Flash, that's Robin, Alex, Aqualad. It's cool if you forget their names"
"I'm honored to be included" the girl stated as she walked forwards.
Superboy walked in front of her, her outfit changed from a white and red female variation of her Uncles uniform to a black shirt with a red 'X' across it.
"I like your t-shirt" she said blushing causing Superboy to smile slightly.
"Today is the day"
...
In the destruction of the Cadmus building sat a small building made from spare parts. Not to say this was permanent due to the large construction team outside rebuilding the Cadmus main building.
Inside was a desk where Guardian sat with the skinny Genomorph from Sub Level 52 and Dr. Desmond's assistant.
"Cadmus changes today. With Desmond out of the picture the board has placed me in charge. No more Genomorphs suppressing our will, Dr. Spence you are acting chief scientist. This is a kinder and gentler Cadmus."
...
In a room filled with the same screens Dr. Desmond used to communicate with the Light, the Light themselves began conversing about what had transpired as of late.
"I'm not sure if we can leave Guardian in charge of Cadmus, are you sure that's the best plan?" one female voice asked.
A male voice responded "That is of no real concern to us at this point, Cadmus was obviously a failure, and I'll send someone to collect anything useful from their laboratories later. In the mean time we should focus on these teens"
Another male "in all my years of life never have I seen someone with such power" the man spoke with admiration at a security camera image of Humungousaur. "If we gain access to that device, the Earth would be ours. And if we could reverse engineer it? The entire Universe would be ripe pickings"
"I assure you, Project: Ten is under production as we speak but, without all of Cadmus working on the project, it will take time"
"How long?"
"Six years... estimated of course but, my calculations are never wrong. I'm more concerned with Project: Doomsday and Project: Match"
A female voice sounding more dominate than anything spoke up "Project: Match could be very useful and Project: Doomsday..."
"Project: Doomsday is unstable; I recommend immediate termination of the project"
"I beg to differ, Project: Doomsday could still be useful... I'll handle it"
"And as for the group of children?"
"It's now evident that the league is willing to employ children to do their dirty work" the man scoffed at the idea "That's a dark twist"
"Never the less, it's one that can be played to our advantage, even the temporary loss of the weapon may prove useful. Eventually, everyone sees the light"
