Shadows

Robin, M'gann, Superboy, Kaldur and I went to the beach. The water was clear and boats dotted the horizon, M'gann ran forward in her yellow tankini, "Hello Megan! We should hit the beach every day!" Someone was sure excited, but then again being an alien from Mars she probably had not seen a large body of water her whole life.
Superboy, Kal, and Robin were all wearing swim trunks
"But first," Robin said theatrically. "a moment of silence for our absent comrade."
Humouring him, I lowered my head in mock mourning. Wally apparently didn't get out of school today because his classes started a week before anyone else's.
"Well what are we waiting for?" I yelled, heading to the water, everyone followed after and we rushed into the cold salt water. About five steps in I suddenly turned and sent a massive splash wave at the others.
"Hey!" they all shouted, soon enough we all became involved in a splash war. M'gann was aiming for Robin while he was distracted by Kaldur using his water magic to make bigger waves.
Splashing my way over to M'gann, I said, "Girl's verses boys!" and used my momentum to send more water Robin's way.
"What!" both Kaldur and Robin said at the same time. Robin was cut off, 'though, when he was submerged in wave attacks from all sides.
Superboy was a little farther off but, when he heard my declaration, he jumped high in the air and cannonballed right in the centre of our group, soaking us all and sending Robin under a second time.
We played for a while in our teams with Superboy acting as a traitor to both sides but adding to the fun. Since Kaldur was using his powers we decided all powers were fair play... We should have banned gadgets but none of us knew where Robin was hiding his weapons. He managed to dunk us all once before we teamed up and dunked him together.
After Superboy was dunked for the 5th time, we decided it was time for lunch, both Robin and M'gann had started shivering from the cold water.
Our stuff was still where we left it next to the cove in the side of the mountain so we pulled out a blue, red, and green cooler and a grill and set it in a sunny part of the beach. Heating the coals was easy and we cooked hot dogs over the grill. Robin was handing everyone a bun and Megan was scarfing down anything she could get her hands on.
"So good!" she yelled. We added some veggies and put them the on skewers and ate until we were all full, something we wouldn't be able to do with Wally since most the food would go to him so he could still play.
After that we decided to play volleyball. I was referee for the first game and we played with everyone teaming up at least once. The scores for the first game were: Robin and Kaldur twenty-five to twenty-three with M'gann and Superboy. Surprisingly M'gann was the one who got the majority of the points, Kaldur and Robin just had better teamwork.
The next game I was paired with Kal and Robin went to Superboy's team, we spanked them twenty-five to eleven, in the last half Robin accused me of cheating. I simply said, "I never cheat."
It was awkward for a while because the next game I was paired with Robin, we nearly lost but midgame Robin apologized and tried to make things up to me. We barely won with a twenty-seven to twenty-five, then it was Robin's turn to go out and I was paired with Superboy.
We lost... badly, five to twenty-five with Megan and Kal beating us into the sand. The last game it was me and Megan verses Robin and Superboy, they never stood a chance the game ended at twenty-five to two.
Of course we were all pretty tired from all the exercising so, starting with Superboy, we began to bury people in the sand. We also smashed watermelons and built castles and then went back into the ocean to cool off. At around five we packed up and headed back into the mountain.
"I wonder why Wally didn't join us." School ended at half-past two, he could literally make it to the beach in minutes.
"Maybe he just didn't want to go," Robin said, we were all walking together when we met Batman in the tunnel.
"Get into your clothes, you have an assignment." We all got serious and headed everyone left to change, everyone had barely entered when the computer came alive, "Recognized, Kid Flash, B-03."
Wally entered and I realized why he was so late to the beach, he was carrying a beach ball, lawn chair, several coolers and a parasol umbrella. He also had sunscreen on his nose, a tube around his waist and sunglasses. He looked rather silly and I had to hold in a laugh, it looked like the others did as well, but then he tripped and slid forward past both Batman and Red Tornado before coming to a stop in front of Green Arrow.
"Wall-Man huh?" a new voice echoed through the room, as I walked closer to the others I saw a blonde girl in a green suit with an arrow emblazoned on her chest. I'm guessed she was an archer. "Love the uniform," she continued. "what exactly are your powers?" Sarcasm is strong with this girl.
"Who is she?" Wally asked, getting up and joining the group.
"Artemis, your new teammate."
"Kid-Flash, never heard of you."
"She's my new protégé." Green Arrow stepped up and began introductions.
"Wait, what happened to your old one?"
"Recognized, Speedy B-06."
"I don't go by Speedy anymore," he growled. "Anyway, call me Red Arrow."
"Wow, you look-" Green Arrow started but Red cut him off.
"Replaceable" he said.
Green Arrow sighed but stepped forward to put his hand on Red Arrow's shoulder, "You know it's not like that, you told me you were going solo."
"So why waste time looking for a sub? I bet she can't even shoot that bow." This is going to be one of those drama king things that are just to protect ego, right? But the boys were all on Red's side.
Artemis stepped forward aggressively. "Yes, I can." she said.
I stepped forward, "How about a bet? If she can then we move on to the real topic of why we are here today and if not, she leaves, how about that?"
Everyone seemed to look at me before they all eventually nodded "By the way," I spoke up. "I put $10 on Artemis." I pulling money out of my cloak dropping my money on the ground and waited, Robin, Kid Flash and Superboy put to Red. Megan and Kal didn't want to bet.
Artemis lined up a target and shot an arrow, then both archers began to run around the room shooting at the exact same spot, each arrow was cut in half by another and then another until both quivers were empty. Red had shot the last arrow and was standing triumphantly over Artemis. "I win," he said. Robin, Wally and Superboy were hooting in victory. I walked over to the pot and picked up the money and began to put it in my cloak.
"Hey wait!" Robin said, "We won that!"
"Nope, I won." I said simply.
"But Speedy won!" KF said.
"First off, he said his name now is Red Arrow," I spoke calmly. " and secondly, the bet was if she could shoot the bow, not beat Red in a duel." I took $15 dollars out and handed them to Artemis, smirking as I did. She stood shocked for a minute before she grinned and grabbed the money. Batman was half-smiling and Green Arrow was trying to hold in his laughter and failing miserably.
"Now," I said, "on to business," and turned my attention to Batman. "Dr. Serling Roquette was rescued by Red Arrow and 04:00 this morning."
"From the League of Shadows," Red interrupted. "I have her holed up in a school and I need you to protect her while I figure out when the League took her invention, Doc calls it the Fog. It eats through anything and bypasses firewalls to crash major corporations like they are nothing. Though that is only the short version, it steals all the information and gives it right to the Shadows"
"It would be perfect for extortion, manipulation, power broking... sounds like the Shadows." Artemis said.
"How would you know anything about the Shadows" Kid Flash asked.
"How do you know she doesn't?" I asked. "There are millions of reasons to become a hero, maybe hers has something to do with them, or maybe she studies villains and their victims. It doesn't mean Artemis isn't right, those things she listed would be used by people who don't want to get involved personally and use others for their dirty work and as scapegoats."
"What's your name?" she asked me.
"Alexandra Tennyson but call me Alex." I said.
"Well, Alex, thanks but I can handle myself" she said rudely.
My eyes narrowed at her
Batman stepped in between us, "You have a mission, I suggest you get started."
"Then my job is done." Red Arrow walked to the transporter.
"Recognized Speedy, B-06."
"That's Red Arrow B-06, update," he growled and transported away.
