TOM'S POINT OF VIEW
It was great seeing Ranie after a while, since it took my thoughts off how sad I felt about not being with Sam. Ranie was my best friend since kindergarten and we were always so close. She asked me out once or twice in high school, but then swore that we would only stay friends. It was perfect that way. I know what she did to Sam, but that was only because she cared about me. We were upstairs talking while Matt and Sam were sleeping. I told her everything; Sam breaking up with me, the gym room thing and more.
After half an hour, Sam woke up and went downstairs to breakfast. Ranie and I talked for a bit more, before going down to have some breakfast too. Ranie told me that she wanted to visit Kayla, her sister. You might not expect this but, for a few days now, Kayla has been lost in my thoughts. Her brown hair, swinging past her belly, her irresistible smile, that mesmerizing laugh that just makes you smile and her stunning, huge chocolate brown eyes, that sparkle at every opportunity.
"I sorta miss her, you know," She smiled as we were on our way to Kayla's room. "I mean, we used to argue and fight, but that's sisters for you and we love each other no matter what."
She knocked on her door and waited for Kayla to open the door. Instead, Selena greeted us and then left the room. We walked in, and Kayla stood there. Even with no make up on, she was truly beautiful, her natural rosy lips grinned at us, sweetly.
"Look what the cat brought in." Kayla chuckled and hugged her sister. We locked eyes for a second, before she shook it off. "So, how've you been?"
"Great, Kay. How about you? Having fun in your little boarding school?" Ranie looked around the room, examining the broken lamp.
"Yeah, I'm good and, you know Dylan, my ex, he broke that and he still hasn't replaced it." Kayla explained, looking at the smashed lamp. Ranie didn't look surprised.
"I knew that guy was trouble." She flashed a smile at Kayla.
Kayla got up and said, "Oh, I need the toilet, excuse me." And gave a shy smile and left us.
That's when I turned to Ranie and told her all about my crush on Kayla. I knew she would be supportive since she didn't like me that way any more.
After I confessed to her, I think I may have been wrong. She gritted her teeth but gave me a fake smile.
"Great." She almost snapped.
And then the door opened. Actually, two doors opened. The bathroom door and the room door.
"I think I should tell you guys that these doors are not soundproof. At all." Kayla said, coming out of the bathroom awkwardly.
Selena walked into the room, covered her face with her hand but her sad eyes peeked through.
"And neither are the room doors," Selena muttured. "And yes, if you were wondering, I was putting my ear against the door this whole time."
"Um," I nervously said.
"You know what, I think I've had enough of this school. I feel like everybody's falling in love with everyone but me. Nobody likes me, not even as a friend. The teachers, the boys, the girls." Selena told us shakily.
She began packing quickly, with tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I want to leave this place now," Ranie left the room and I looked at Kayla and she looked back, both of us trying to compose our thoughts.
SAM'S POINT OF VIEW
I sat up in my bed as I stretched out my arms. After getting ready and scruffing my hair up, I made my way to the cafeteria.
I saw Kayla, Tom and Matt sitting together. I sat beside Matt and realise that they all had a glum look on their faces.
"What happened?" I asked curiously. "Are you all alright?"
"Selena left the boarding school." Matt explained. My eyebrows shot up. The school semester hadn't even started. But then I realised something.
"Guys...since Selena left, there's a spare space in the girl's dorm." I noticed.
After a short silence, Matt responded, "I know what you're thinking of doing but what about Ms Trall and the other students?"
I thought for a while before saying, "Maybe I should just tell her everything. And, honestly, I'm not that popular among the students and if they ask, I can just tell them too."
"I don't know, I feel like that seems too easy to be true." Kayla said, cutting up the sausage on her plate.
But she was wrong. Because it worked. Ms Trall was super confused and I was in her office for a good half-hour but then she admired me for my (looking back, stupid) determination to go to the school.
And most of the people I knew at school already knew my secret so I didn't have to explain much to anyone.
I used my credit card, which Dad put money for school in for me, to buy some female clothes the next day and moved into Kayla's room.
I closed the closet door, after I finished unpacking all my things.
"Hello, roommate." I smiled, as I hugged Kayla, who just came into the room.
"Hi!" Kayla let go. "Oh and now that you're a girl, you need a dress for the school dance."
"Oh yeah, can you come shopping with me tomorrow?"
"Yeah, course! But, it has to be before seven. Tom and I are going on a date. I hope you don't mind. You know, your roommate going on a date with your ex..." Kayla mumbled.
"No, seriously, it's alright. Actually it's great he found someone! You and Tom will make a great couple." I reassured her.
Kayla smiled, hugged me and whispered into my shoulder.
"You're a great friend."
