Chapter 6

“I don’t regret the painful times; I bear my scars as if they were medals”- Paulo Coelho

A few weeks later, Alexis was feeling so much better. At least now she has a lover by her side. Yes, she and my brother told each other how they feel. Finally!

They just look good together. Everyone was so excited and happy for them, especially me. It was rare to see true love, and being able to see it is a blessing to me.

One late afternoon, Nathan and I were having a study date; these were the most frequent dates we had. I was still not comfortable enough to be seen with him in public. A psychological insecurity, it’s not that I didn’t like to be seen with him or anything.

“What are you doing on Saturday?” he asked me out of nowhere.

“Not going on a date with you” I said quickly.

“It’s my cousin’s wedding and I’d like if you go with me.”

“I already promised Meaghan to go with her to her friend’s wedding party. Sorry.” I found myself relieved a bit.

“Oh that’s too bad, I really wanted you to meet them… my cousins I mean.”

“Why?”

“Because I want them to meet my girlfriend”

“I’m not your girlfriend, Nate.” I said bluntly.

He didn’t even bother hide his disappointment. “One day, Macy Clark. One day.”

“Okay. Dream on. So I have to go see Meaghan, she’s taking me shopping for that wedding; she wants me to look as good as she is.”

“Want me to drive you there?”

“If you don’t have anything better to do.” I joked.

“Get your stuff, Mace” he said instead of answering back something witty.

Every time I’m with Nathan I feel nervous and at ease at the same time. Hearing him call me his girlfriend; full on made my stomach jump.

He drove me there in a few minutes and before I got out I gave his cheek a light kiss.

“Thanks.” I smiled and got out of the car, and before closing the door he leaned down to look at me through the passenger’s window.

“You know that’s something a sweet girlfriend would do.”

“Hmm, too bad I’m not sweet and I’m not a girlfriend.” I teased him and Meaghan had opened the window and was looking over at us.

“Thanks mate!” she called on to Nathan.

“No problem.” He waved at her and started the car.

Before I could even reach the front door Meaghan was out pulling me in.

“OUCH!” I exclaimed loudly.

“SHH!!” she covered my mouth.

“What?” I whispered.

“Brian is napping on the couch, I told him I needed our room upstairs, because my little sister’s coming.”

“We’re not going out?”

“Nope, I have something that would blow your mind. And that little groupie you got there.” I knew she was referring to Nathan

“He’s not my groupie!”

“Kay whatever, let’s go up now.” She led the way to her room and put the dress out on the bed next to where I was sitting. “Voila!”

“That’s stunning!” My mouth dropped at the color and the amazing cut.
