As we pulled into my driveway   my drunk dad stumbled out of the doorway and mumbled "What are you doing here?" It was normal for him to be drunk or high or both but for some reason it just sparked some anger deep inside me and she said "We ditched school, but it's not like you're gonna remember we ditched because you're drunk. And you're not gonna do anything about it now because you really don't give a shit. You don't really give a shit about anything but where your next drink is going to come from."  After she said that Nate was staring at me with his mouth wide open and my dad was glaring at me. "You know I really don't appreciate your attitude young lady." He said as he was walking towards her. "And I don't appreciate the fact that you're a piece of shit dad but you're not gonna change that so why should I change my attitude?"
He was in arms length of me now and tried to reach out and grab my face but my slapped his hand away. "You really shouldn't have done that." He said. Just seconds later I saw his fist fly up to my face, but before he could hit me, I  grabbed his fist twisted the wrong way pulled him closer to me and whispered "And you really shouldn't have done that." She kneed him in the nuts twice before throwing him down in the grass. I turned around to see Nate to shocked to react, so I went inside to get the keys to my dads pick-up truck off the hook and saw my mom there laying on the couch with a bruised cheek and a lot of fresh cuts across her wrist. I looked at my mom and said "Don't worry mom I'm gonna make it better soon." Then I left closing the door behind me. Only to find my dad standing really close to Nate with a pocket knife against his throat, Nate didn't look to amused or scared in fact he looked bored. I saw my dads lips move saying something and everything about Nate's posture and his expression changed and suddenly he was tense and looked ready to kill him. My dad said a few more words before Nate snapped and quickly grabbed his wrist twisting and pinning it behind his back grabbing the knife from him and kicking him to the ground. Just as I thought he was done Nate saw him trying to get up using his hands and knees but Nate had other plans, he kicked him in the back causing him to fall on his face again, walked over to him so he was standing over him and flipped him on his back. I looked around the neighborhood to see if anyone else was watching but no one was so I turned back to the fight. Nate was on his knees pinning my dads wrists to the ground with the pocket knife at his throat and said "If you ever talk about her like that again I will cut every one of your limbs off one by one and feed them to my dog." After he finished talking my dads eyes were wide and his mouth was a perfect O. I had never seen my dad look that scared before and for some reason found it hilarious and couldn't resist the urge to laugh. So that's what I did which caused Nate to get up and drop the knife and stare at her. After she was done laughing Nate asked "How much of that did you see?"
"All I saw was you on top of my dad with a knife at his throat and my dad looking like he pissed himself and was about to cry." She said. Nate made a very weird face and said "Pissed himself? While I was on top of him? Gross." I smiled and started walking towards the truck and noticed that Nate wasn't following me and turned around to catch him staring at something he shouldn't have been staring at.
"Nathan!"
I knew that had gotten his attention because he snapped his head up smirked, raised his eyebrow and said "What?" All innocent and sarcastic. I rolled my eyes and tossed Nate the keys "You're driving because I don't know where the principles house is."
He smiled, jogged over to the car to get their stuff and jogged to the drivers seat, got in, dumped all the stuff in the middle seat and smiled at me as he started the truck and pulled out of my yard and started driving out of the neighborhood.
