Sam stood in the distance, watching her boyfriend, Trey, kiss a girl that wasn't her. She couldn't pull her eyes away from the sight, as a lump formed in her throat. She hated herself for ever loving him, for ever having feelings for Trey, but she knew there was no use in this nonsense. She finally turned on her heels and ran away as fast as she could. She could hear Trey's voice in the distance calling her name, but she refused to turn and face him. She ran down the street toward the only house that offered help, Austin's house. She felt the tears stinging her eyes as she burst through the door and managed to yell in a shaky voice, "Austin!!"
He came barreling down the stairs to find Sam in a lump on the couch, softly sobbing to herself. "Sam..?" he said, softly rubbing her shoulder. She scooted over just enough for him and buried her face in his thighs, crying. "H-he ch-cheated on M-me," she finally choked out. "He what?! I swear, when I get my hands on Trey he's dead!" Austin said through gritted teeth. Sam looked up at him, tears still streaming down her face, "He isn't worth it, Aus.." "He isn't worth your tears either, Sam," he said softly, wiping the tears from her face gently. "I know.. I know.. But it's better than my alternative pain reliever." She lifted her wrists, tracing the scars from previous times of pain and sorrow. "You can always come to me. I'm never too busy to take care of my baby. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have you, Sam," Austin said, taking her hand slowly and cautiously.
They both jumped, when they heard a knock on the door. Austin quickly got up, leaving Sam on the couch to watch TV. He opened the door to find Trey standing on the other side. "Listen I-" Austin cut him off with a sharp punch in the nose, knocking Trey to his feet. Austin jumped on top of him, pinning him to the ground none too happy to see him. "Listen to me, you little bastard. If you ever so much as look at Sam again, a bruised nose will be the least of your worries. Do you understand?" Austin asked through a scowl. Trey nodded vigorously, and Austin punched him again before getting up and shutting the door.
"Who was it?" Sam asked, already knowing. "No one important," Austin answered casually as he sat back down beside her. "What'd you do?" she asked, looking over and failing to hide a slight smile. "Broke his nose and told him never to look at you again," Austin said, smirking.
