Chapter 5
Pheonix
"Rise and shine," I heard someone say loudly. Evan woke up suddenly, gasping softly. His face was blotchy and his eyes were swollen from crying. Cassidy was just knocked out completely, not responding to anything. I nudged her softly before looked up to see who it was.
"Oh, Riley," I whispered, looking down at the ground.
Riley crouched down to my level and I sat up, pulling my knees underneath my chest. His eyes looked at mine in a soft way. Everything got quiet as we just stared at each other, but then we heard footsteps coming down the stairs, so we snapped back into reality and my eyes traveled to the small staircase that belonged to the basement. I fought the urge to groan loudly as Justin emerged.
"Glad you're awake," He muttered blankly. It didn't have much feeling into it, but I didn't like the way his face fit with his choice of words.
"I'm not," I snapped back and rubbed my eyes with my hands.
He shrugged. "Too bad, because we're going shopping."
"Shopping?" I snorted. "You don't seem like that type of guy."
He rolled his eyes. "Not for me dumbass. For you and the other two." He moved his head towards Evan and Cassidy.
Riley walked out of the basement without saying another word. Cassidy's soft snores rung off the walls, and Evan just sat there, staring off into space.
"Okay, why would you even want to spend money on us if all you want to do is get rid of us?" I pointed out and tried to get up, but my body was sore from sleeping on the cold, hard floor.
"I didn't have a choice. Riley is making me be nice to you guys," He rolled his eyes. "I don't see the point to that."
"Aren't you like the boss or something like that?" I asked, raising my eyebrows. "Because that what it seemed like last night when they were all turning to you for instructions."
He groaned in irritation. "I don't need to be explaining anything to you. You listen to me and don't ask any questions, and that's the end of story. Now, get your ass up. I want to get this over with." He snapped his fingers, as if telling me to hurry up.
I shook Cassidy awake. She jumped, alerted, and then her eyes found Justin. It was like her eyes had been ripped out of her skull. She brought her legs closer to her and rested her chin on her knees. Justin just stared at her, and then he rolled his eyes. I stood up and took Evan and Cassidy by the hand. Justin turned around and led us up the stairs and out of the basement.
"Where are we going, Phen?" Evan whispered to me.
"Do all three of you guys ask so many questions?" Justin groaned as he walked in front of us.
Pheonix, don't hit him, I told myself. "Last time I checked, he was talking to me, douchebag."
"Whatever, babe." He snarled, knowing that it would drive me insane.
I'm not his "babe", nor will I ever be. Now, can he just stop trying to annoy the crap out of me and just take me shopping?! Oh, but no, he has to make sure that he gets a healthy dose of the "I pissed Pheonix off" pill. Trust me, he's had enough to last him a while. Cassidy squeezed my hand.
"Does he like you or something?" She asked me with an eyebrow raised.
"I heard that, and hell to the no." Justin snorted. "I'll be better off getting hit by a bus."
I gritted my teeth for a second. "Mind if I'm the one driving that bus?"
He turned his head for a second to shoot me a look. "You're hilarious," He said with heavy accent of sarcasm.
"Thanks, it's a gift," I replied with the same tone of voice as him.
"Just be happy that I'm taking you shopping." He spat as he made a turn, the three of us following him, two steps behind him.
Then, an idea came up in my mind. Like a lightbulb lit up all of a sudden. I let go of Cassidy's hand and grabbed Justin's upper arm, spinning him around. I have to admit, that was a pretty bold move on my behalf. His eyes were wide when he turned around to face me. "The hell?"
"Listen up, Justin. I'll go shopping with you, and I'll be the perfect girl, but only if I can take my best friend with me." I proposed.
He chuckled. "And just why would I do that?"
"Because if you don't, I'll make sure to make your life a living hell when we're at the mall, and that's a promise I'm willing to keep." I threatened.
He looked at me deeply, and I could tell that he was thinking. Then, he sighed. "Alright, fine. Tell your friend to meet you there." He turned around and began walking away from me.
I couldn't wait to tell Des everything.
Even though I knew that it would cause for her to get a heart attack without a doubt.
