What's Up With Whatpad?

The proliferation of problems with Whatpad seem to have grown over the past months.

The problem with these ... problems, is that they don't seem to be worrying about fixing them. All do is make more changes (or what they call improvements). Yet, if you bring up how long an issue has been going on and ask when it will be fixed, you get a standard answer from any Whatpad employee. "You can't expect things to be fixed overnight" or my other favorite, "We're working on it"

I know users who've belonged to a wide rang of other sites and all agree this is the worst site for problems. And they have the longest time frame for fixing things.

You'll never get a straight answer from any Whatpad employees. They all tow the company line. None will admit there's issues with the site.

There's also the fact that several of their recent changes have gone against their previous "vision" for the site of a small, close knit community.

They've made communication between users much harder. They've made getting anything at all done on the site harder as well.

Yet, here we all remain ... why?

Because of the other users. It's the only thing keeping this site going.

I've heard time and again from users ... "I would leave but I'd miss my friends here."

So it isn't the features of Whatpad that keeps users here it's the other users.

Which means one thing: connecting with readers and writers and just those here for say the MDC, is a good thing. And making it harder for us to connect is a bad thing.

The message board is not as streamlined as it could be. When someone comments and it shows in your notifications (if it shows) you should be able to click the notification and go straight to the message. Instead, Whatpad has you scrolling through your entire board to find the message.

Many users simple don't answer messages anymore because it's too difficult.

So if they want us to connect and share why do they make it so difficult?

Not something I can answer. Only Whatpad can give us the answers and they aren't talking. Unless there's a mass (and I mean MASS) exodus of users from the site nothing will change. The chances of getting enough users to leave the site is itty bitty. As I've said, many won't leave simply because of their friends here. They may not write anymore here. May have moved everything to another site, but they continue to log in and talk to the friends they've made. Which means Whatpad can keep their numbers up and smile happily as they show the latest user numbers to they investors.

As Whatpad has grown it seems as if now all the upper management cares about is the all mighty dollar and how much of that cash they can get in their pockets.

Therefore, it seems as if we are stuck between a rock and a hard place

Therefore, it seems as if we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Nothing will probably change on the site for the better. We can stick it out and have hope or leave and find greener pastures elsewhere.

But your friends are what matter. That is the one thing good from all of this. Friends.

Whatpad can continue to change and grow and make things difficult for us. We have our friends, lots of them and we continue to come back because of them. In reality we don't need Whatpad, we can connect with our friends anywhere on the web, but this is our commonality. This site is what brought us together.
