Hi! How's life everybody?

So, I'm currently entering a competition for young writers, where you have to write a short story themed on 'Rebellion'.

I decided to enter it just for fun :) And, I was wondering if you could read it! :)

It's called: The Precept

Please vote after April 16, or else it won't count :) And, don't forget to comment and give constructive criticism as well! :) It would be very much appreciated, and I would be eternally grateful! Thank you so, so much for reading my Author's note, and I hope you enjoy 'The Precept'.

That's it! Have fun reading! (p.s. the first two chapters are not scary, but it gets flippin' awesome and terrifying later on!)

A few centuries ago.

Chapter 1

I kept gazing at my new, wonderfully built house.

There was a beautiful front garden, which contained colourful exotic plants. Some flowers seemed to be rare, and most of them I didn't recognise.

The only flowers I recognised were roses, daisies and lavender.

The beautiful plants gave off a very pleasant, sweet smell.

My new home was paradise.

Today I was going to apply for a job
as a butcher; I was very skilled at anything to do with meat.

Once I went inside, the house was more beautiful on the inside than the outside- the wooden walls and the floors were waxed and polished, and the wood was natural and still fresh so I could smell the pleasant aroma of the forest.

The hall was beautifully decorated with high quality furniture from France, and the decorative carpet on the floor was from Arabia.

The expensive furniture came from my grandfather- A very important member of the Parliament.

May he rest in peace.

I glanced at some of the paintings which were painted in London. They were accurately painted, revealing all the details.

My bedroom had a king-sized bed with silky bed sheets from Italy, and also a few paintings from London. The walls were blue, and they had a few ornaments carefully engraved on it.

There was also another room downstairs, which was next to the staircase. I decided to call it the 'entertainment room' where there would be small bar and maybe a dining table.

The kitchen was slightly smaller than the hall, however it was still enormous compared to the kitchen from my old house.

Elisabeth would have loved it...Elisabeth...Oh how I missed her...I wish she would be with me, right here, right now, hugging me gently and saying how wonderful this place would be for our future child.

The entertainment room could have been out child's bedroom. Elisabeth and I could have had a perfect relationship and family.

But our future together was ruined, when our house was set on fire.

I closed my eyes and remembered that day clearly...

It was a wonderful summer morning, and Elisabeth was cooking a delicious breakfast.

"Hello, honey." She kissed me on the cheek.

I couldn't have enough of her; her smell, touch, lips...

I grabbed her waist and crashed my lips into hers. I kissed her gently.

"Jomhn.." She mumbled, our lips still touching.

I let go of her, knowing that if I would hesitate this time, I would never let her go in a million years.

As I finished my breakfast, I hugged my wife tightly, and went for work.

It was a normal day. Customers came in and out, buying my high-quality meat. I was the best butcher and meat seller in the world, a small girl once told me.

"FIRE!" Someone screamed.

I was deeply concerned, so I ran as fast as I could to help whoever was in need.

My jaw dropped in horror; my house was on fire.

"HELP!" Elisabeth screamed.

I took my shirt off and ran into my house, trying to find my beloved wife.

Once I found her, she was already half burnt.

"My leg is stuck." She whimpered.

I tried to move the debris that fell on her leg, with no avail.

Knowing that this was the end, Elisabeth spoke;

"Go". She whispered.

"NO!" I shouted, "I won't leave you! I love you!"

"Sweetie, please go." A tear slid down her burnt cheek, "I want you to live on. I want you to carry my memory in your soul, I need you to stay strong."

"No." I whispered.

With all my might, I started to lift the debris away from her leg. I groaned in pain when the fire burnt my ankles, but I ignored the pain and kept lifting the debris away from her leg.

Finally, I have freed her.

I swiftly picked Elisabeth up, and ran outside. Healers and ever a few doctors were all around me, trying to help my burnt lower body.

"Help her." I whispered, pointing out to Elisabeth.

They did so, however they couldn't save her.

As my dear wife lay on her deathbed, she didn't want to upset me. She used all her remaining strength to smile.

"I love you." I caressed her cheek.

She moved her lip slightly to respond, and then her eyelids closed. She was gone.

I understood what she wanted to tell me. 'I love you too'.

I opened my eyes, my body shaking from the upsetting memory.

I cried for hours, and remained miserable for 5 years since she died.

I am still miserable now.

I lay on my bed and fell into a restless sleep...
