I woke up to the same scenery. Dry land, not a tree in sight, no wildlife, nothing. Standing up I could see further down the plain land, the sun burning down on me. It was constantly hot as the planet wasn't far from the sun. I kind of became immune, the heat slowly stopped affecting me each day, it's like that one annoying person that doesn't stop talking, soon you stop listening.
Grabbing my back pack from the ground and I stumbled a little. I was still tired but knew I needed to get a move on.
After walking a few miles my shoes got heavier from the amount of sand building up in them. I untied my shoes and watched as the sand poured out and fell to the ground, like a timer reminding me how much time I wasted. After sliding my shoe back on and tying them up I jumped back down to the ground keeping as still and low to the ground as possible. I watched as the ship flew past me in the sky. Once it became silent again I stood up.
I stared and wondered what they were doing this far from their base. I searched my backpack for a bottle of water, to my disappointment there was only a few drops left. I desperately held my mouth open and waited for the drops to drip in my mouth.
'Ahhhh' I groaned and screwed the lid back on and pulled out a map.
I Skimmed over the map and all my little doodles pointing to different vital supply's. Finding the oasis picture I tapped calculating weather or not I would be able to make it.
'Okay so, there's ten hours of light in a day. I spent 3 light hours sleeping and I have seven hours of light left. Then It takes four hours to get there.'I re-supplied on food yesterday, this is why I was so far out from the oasis.
'Why would I put water supply last?'
I thought to myself, feeling like an idiot. Taking a last look at the map I rolled it up and shoved it back into my bag. Swinging my backpack around me I placed one strap on my shoulder.I headed west to the oasis. I was getting hotter by every step. I felt like I would collapse any second. The scenery began to change, the sand and sun changed into rocks and shade. I took a seat behind a huge, cold rock out of the suns glaze. It was nice and cool. I lay my head back and closed my eyes.
I opened my eyes and looked up at the sky. I groaned and threw my head back, I'd missed hours off my journey.
The moon started to come round so I decided to set up camp, ready for the night.
I sat down and unzipped my bag and pulled out a packet of crunches. They were like these thin crunchy and crisp baked snacks.
My names Demetrius by the way. I wasn't always alone, I had my parents once. They would always tell me these stories, tell me about their old planet, eath, arth, EARTH! That's it, that's the one, Earth They traveled from there to here. They told me it wasn't like it once was. There were creatures with wings that could fly through the air and others that walked around on four legs while others walked on two. I always found their stories fascinating. I mean, how could you not? The wild creatures and the tall green trees. I wish I could see it, see it all but there's nothing left, none of it remains. The greed of the human kind destroyed it. They just kept taking and taking, until one day earth couldn't keep up, it just stopped fighting. My parents were two scientists. They came here, to try to survive. They came with others but they died, the Roamers took them. My parents were the only ones to escape, but they soon found them. I was only young but my parents hid me and told me to keep running, so I did. I've been alone since. You're probably thinking why don't I go and help them? Or how could you just run? Sometimes you don't have a choice. Their last words to me were run, a hopeless whisper as they were dragged away.
The Roamers have their areas and I stay as far away from them as possible. They're savage creatures that only care about their kind and only want their kind. The Roamers are all the same, short, fat with four legs. They have a waist like humans but their heads are just like a long tube, in length, and slightly clear. Their waist splits up into four legs. They were quite long, they freak me out every time.
The nights get really cold here because the sun has gone around and the moon is now shining down on us. I grabbed a blanket and wrapped myself into a little cocoon. I would make a fire but it's like a beacon for the Roamers, brings them right to me, and that's the last thing I want.
I opened my eyes and stared at the sky. I lay still for a few more minutes while my body completely woke up. I rubbed my eyes and sat up slowly and yawned. Folding my blanket I carefully placed it back into my bag, trying not to crush my food.
After walking for hours I came across a cave. It was a perfect place to set a permanent camp. There was shelter from the weather and from the Roamers. Their flying ships wouldn't be able to spot me. I pulled my map out of my bag and marked the cave on there, it was an ideal thing to do, and would help me keep track of it.
There was only an hours journey left until I could finally re-supply on water. I sat for a little while as I had something to eat. Eating while not having anything to drink is difficult. I was desperate for water now more than ever.
I continued to make my way towards the oasis. The scenery once again became a hot and sandy dry land. I put my hand over my eyes to block out the sun light.
I walked and walked until I finally reached it. Swinging my backpack around and onto the floor I quickly rummage through it to find my bottles. I fill up as many as I can and put them back into my backpack, ensuring that each one is tightly sealed so it doesn't leak in my bag.
I heard a little gruff sound coming from behind me.
"Oh no" I say to myself thinking out loud. I slowly turn with my hands up showing I had nothing in them. "Hey little guy." It begins to gruff louder. I reached into my pocket and grabbed a pack of crunches. I opened it and threw him one. He grabbed it and ate it quickly. That's when I realised the little guy was just hungry. It pulled at my heart strings so I couldn't help but throw him the whole packet. He are the whole bag in three seconds, tops. He ran back a little and gruffed at me.
"What is it?" I questioned, as though he was going to answer. I followed behind him. He began to run, so I jogged behind. It was too hot to sprint.
I could see a little building in the distance. As we got closer it became clearer. There were no Roamers in sight, so I could only assume it was an abandoned building and the gruff was giving it to me to say thank you for the food. I hid a little by the rock and the gruff ran straight in.
"Hey" I whispered. "Dammit." I followed behind him and opened the door he was scratching on.When I entered it was dark and really cold. It was nice for a while but then I began to shiver. There was a strong smell, I couldn't tell what it was but it was disgusting. I covered my noes with a bandanna from my pocket. I lost the gruff, he ran ahead and it was too dark to spot where he went. I grabbed my torch from my pocket and looked for a light switch.
I flicked it on and watched as the whole building lit up from my end to the other like a Mexican wave.
I slowly started to wished I hadn't turned it on.
