"Wiley, I told you I wouldn't let anything happen to you." I tried to reassure her.

"You know when your parents told me about you I actually had hope, like you'd actually be able to help get us all out of this. I was an idiot, you're just as screwed as all of us." She said making me take a step back.

She didn't look at me and I walked away from her, I knew we were both stuck in this room and arguing with her wouldn't help anyone.

I gave the door another nudge with some unrealistic hope that it would open. To my disappointment it was locked. I walked back to the wall and took a look out of the little square window. I could see some of the buildings. Some were tall and some were smaller each were in pretty bad conditions with some areas with no walls.

I saw two people walk into one of the buildings with a tray of food on it. They were accompanied by two Roamers who kept a close eye on them.

"Wiley?" I called out.

"What?" She snapped.

"What's in that building over there?" I asked pointing to it and still watching the workers and Roamers.

I felt her next to me. "That's where your parents are."

"Really?!" I exclaimed. "We need to get them." I said like a puppy finally seeing its owner.

"That would be great if we weren't stuck in a room." She stated grumpily as she took a seat at the back wall.

Just then there was the sounds of keys and the door opened. Two Roamers entered and grabbed our arms. There were two Roamers on each side of the doors outside. We were dragged through the farm and into a different area. There was a higher platform and huge crowds. Gathered around it. The crowd moved to the sides making a clear path for us to walk through. There were a few mumbles from the crowds but mostly silent, creating a very eerie feel.  I was confused and didn't know what was going on, I looked at Wiley for some answers but she had none, just tears streaming down her face.

The people in the crowds too were upset, some I recognised from earlier. They were farm workers. I began to understand what was going on.

"Wait." I pulled and pulled trying to get out of the Roamers grip but it wouldn't work.

"Then you'll be first." The Roamer said as he pushed me in front.

They can talk? I thought to myself but was refocused on the Roamers when I noticed the big knife.
I kicked back trying to get away from it.

I could see parts of dried blood all over the platform and the knife.

"STOP!" I heard a voice shout out from the back of the crowd. Everyone stopped and looked back. I could recognise that voice from anywhere. Then his face appeared from out of the crowd and I was right, it was him.

"I need them for my research" He continued.

I felt the grip on my arm loosen and I got push forward in the direction of the man. I continued to walk in that direction trying to act normal so the Roamers wouldn't figure out I was more than just a helping hand to their research.

We were taken to the old building I saw through the prison window. The one that the farmer took food into. We said nothing the whole time, just kept our heads down and said nothing. The man held the door open for me and pointed to the back of the room.

"Sit down please" He said politely.

I did as he told me to and took a seat.

"That'll be all" he said to the Roamers hinting at them to leave the room.

There were some sort of devices all around the room, different machines of all shapes and sizes. I didn't know what most of them did, I'd be lying if I said I'd seen anything like it. It was all so fascinating. There was a strange smell in the room, smelt a little like a fire with a mix of something else.

I turned back to the man and noticed how much he had changed. His hair was now grey with some bold patches, I remember when it was healthy and brown. His wrinkles had gotten worse and were all over his face, his skin no longer as healthy as it used to be.

"Come here" he said with a huge smile on his face. He held his arms out and walked towards me. I couldn't believe this was happening, I held onto him so tight never wanting to let go.

"Dad, I missed you so much." I admitted still hugging him.

I pulled away when someone else came to mind. "Where's mom?" I asked as I looked around at the rest of the room.

"She'll be here any moment" he smiled. "She's going to be so pleased to see you." He walked back towards all the machinery. "Come i'll explain everything to you." I followed close by.

"You said you needed me to help with your research, what did you mean?" I asked, the question was lingering on my mind.

"I think it's best we wait for your mother."

I nodded. I heard Wiley whispering a thank you to my father for saving us.

As though on que my mother walked into the room. Her face lit up and she ran towards me.

"Oh Demetrius, I never knew if I'd see you again." She said through tears.

"I missed you too." I hugged her with a squeeze and never wanted to let go. I'd waited to see my parents again for years and it was finally the day. She pulled away and looked at my father with a worried expression. She too had become old with grey hair and wrinkles.

"What is it?" I asked growing concerned at the sudden change in atmosphere.

"Take a seat" my mother said gesturing to a seat next to my father. I did as they asked and I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
