"Wait we can't, they'll recognise me and execute me for running away." I could see all the fear building up inside of her.
I put my hands on both her shoulders. "I promise I won't let anything happen to you."
She smiled nervously. I could see she was relieved by what I said but she was still very scared and afraid.
I told the gruffs to run, which they refused to do but I forced them to go. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happened to them...again.
The ship grew bigger and bigger, and came closer and closer until it was right in front of us. It was made of metal and had a pointed front. I saw the glass windows and two of the pilots. The doors on the side slowly opened. I could hear Wiley taking a lot of heavy breaths which only made me more nervous. Both of the Roamers came out and walked towards us on their four legs so they moved pretty quickly. I could hear the faint whispers between the two. My hands started to become so warm and sweaty as I started to become more scared. I felt a hand wrap around mine and I looked down then up to Wiley. She smiled a little and turned back to look at the Roamers.
They stood right in front of me and began to study my face. They must have realised I was new or something. Their faces had different lumps, bumps and tumours on there. Just like us they wore clothes.
The Roamer finished looking at me and took a little step back. He nodded to the other Roamer and all I felt was a strong hand grab my arm and I was dragged into the ship. Their grip was so tight I could feel my arm going numb from the lack of blood flowing around my arm. I was pushed onto a seat and Wiley sat next to me. I looked down at my arm. It still hurt a little, like it was still holding my arm. There was a red hand print around my arm and I tried to rub it better.
"Dont worry, it'll fade after a while." Wiley whispered but didn't look at me.
Now I could see what she was talking about, with the farm and everything. I felt bad for first saying I wasn't going to help. I would have left her to go back to this, and this was only the start!
"I'm sorry." I apologised.
"For what?" She asked confused and looked at me.
"About when I said no before, I mean if this is how they're treating us now, I don't even want to think about the farm." I explained.
"Dont worry about it." She assured me with a smile. "You're here now." She put her hand on mine and I returned the smile. I looked back and out of one of the Windows.
The ride wasn't too long but when we got there it was dark.
"We're here." Wiley whispered gently shaking me awake.
I looked up and around trying to remember when I fell asleep. The Roamers walked towards us and grabbed our arms again dragging us off the ship once again.
Once we were off the ship I could smell a new, different scent. I couldn't describe it. My feet hit the ground and I looked down. I gave the floor a little kick, I'd never seen this floor before. It was brow and crumbly.
"We're at the farm." I heard Wiley whisper again.
Just as I was about to respond the Roamers continued to drag us through the farm. I saw a few people working, dotted around the farm. They looked miserable which I couldn't help but feel sympathy for them. I saw some of them with scars over their faces, hands and arms. The reality of where I was started to sink in, and just how bad it actually was. I gulped down a lump of fear in my throat. I saw a few Roamers on the side with some sort of metal weapon which I guess is how the farm workers got their scars. I caught eye contact with one of the Roamer guards. I felt intimidated and scared so I looked away straight away. I could smell something amazing like freshly cooked food. It triggered a memory of when my mom used to cook and I'd help throwing in all the ingredients thinking I was a professional chef or something. I smiled at the memory before I was taken out of my thoughts when we reached a door. There were several buildings all over the place. I couldn't really see what each one would be for, it was unclear.
The Roamers opened the doors and threw us in. The floor was hard and cold. I rubbed my knee as it began to ache with pain as I landed on them. My hands touched the cold floor as I stood back up. There was a murky humid smell in the room which made it difficult to breath.
I could hear sniffs from the other side of the room.
"Wiley?" I whispered across to her. She sniffed a bit more as she wiped a few tears. I took a few steps closer to her.
"This is where..." He voice started to break and I gave her time to finish her sentence. "This is where they take people before the execute them in front of everyone, to send a message." She paused before finishing her sentence. "We call it the kill room."
