"Easy tiger, if I didn't know you any better I would say you almost nailed poor Riley on purpose." Paxton smirked, tossing me the volleyball.
I rolled my eyes and prepared to serve again, jump serving the ball as hard as I could, causing Aaron to dive on the sand, barely lifting the ball enough for Riley to set it over.
"All right, I'm feeling some competitiveness rubbing off on her. Are you feeling it Pax? Because I'm feeling it." Madison shouted.
"Oh I think everyone is feeling it." He smirked, tossing me the ball again.
"I didn't know we were competing at the Olympics over here." Flynn shouted from over the net, his entire left side of his body covered in sand from when he dove for one of Paxton's spikes.
I snickered and tossed the ball up again, jumping to hit it in Flynn's direction. He managed to graze it, sending it flying back towards a group of girls who were tanning a few feet away from us.
"That's it, I'm done. This is stupid. This is why I play baseball." Flynn shouted, jogging off the sand court.
"So back to the beach?" Madison asked hopefully. "I need a tan."
Flynn nodded to wear our lounge chairs were. "We're off." Flynn said, holding up a peace sign.
I laughed and shook my head, bumping the ball up before bumping it over to Paxton who passed it back with a set.
"How much you wanna bet that by tonight they will be drunk and making out in a corner?" Paxton asked, spiking the ball at me, causing me to dive and save it. It barely made it off the ground and I groaned, rolling over and rubbing the sand off my body.
"There is no doubt in my body. I don't understand why they fight trying to be together. Yes, there's distance between them, but they work. Why wouldn't you want to try?" I sighed.
"People are stupid." Paxton shrugged.
"Hey, we're going to grab some lunch. You guys wanna join?" Aaron asked as he walked up to us.
I looked at Paxton, hoping he wouldn't make me go.
"I'm not really hungry just yet, how about you Chels?" He asked, tucking the volleyball under his arm.
I shot him a grateful look and shook my head. "I'm good for now. You two have fun." I said, forcing a smile.
Aaron returned the smile, awkwardly waving as he hooked his arm around Riley's waist.
"I"m proud of you, baby steps."
"Baby steps?" I asked.
"Baby steps," He repeated. "You only seemed to kind of want to beat the shit out of the both of them."
I laughed and rolled my eyes, walking towards the pool, knowing Paxton would follow after.
"Are you going to tell me you're not mad?"
"It's not mad, just hurt. But I can't do anything. If he doesn't want to be with me, then there's not much that I can do. The Aaron I knew and loved is gone and I need to accept that."
"That's awfully big of you."
"Are you saying I'm not capable of being the bigger person?"
He smirked and cocked his head to the side. "I'm just saying, we're all human."
"Fair point."
"What do you want to drink?" He asked, already backing up towards the poolside bar.
"Caribu Lou."
Paxton gave me a knowing look and I snickered, pushing my sunglasses further up my nose and laying down on the chaise lounge. "Come on now, Pax. Learn to have a little fun."
