I cannot believe I am already halfway through freshman year. I feel like it was just yesterday I started high school. Jake has definitely kept his promise of being at my side no matter what. He has even comforted me when I got in fights with my other best friends. That is another thing I love about him. He listens to all my problems and gives me advice on how to handle troubling situations.  Every day since the first day of school he has met me for lunch where we talk about how our day has been going and all. In my opinion, lunch is the best part of the day because I get to see him after some of my classes.

Today at lunch we were talking about things we like about freshman year so far and halfway through our conversation he started staring into the distance. After finally realizing that he was not listening to me anymore I snapped in front of his face to bring him back to reality. He looked back at me with his face in an awe expression and pointed to the person he was staring at. I turn around to see who he is so interested in, and what do you know it's a girl. Not just any ordinary girl, but a new girl. How do I know this? The girl looks like a lost puppy and has a schedule in her hand. I turn back to Jake. "So, what's the big deal? Isn't it is just a new girl?" Jake says, "Actually, it is a big deal. She is hot and I have to make a good impression on the new girl." "Oh really, how are you going to do that?" Jake says, "Just wait and see." He fixes his hair, checks his breath and gets up and walks over to the girl. I watch him as he casually talks to the new girl and introduces himself. I think to myself, wow he may actually pull this off. Then, I see him take her bag for her and walk her to our lunch spot. I quickly turn around so it doesn't look like I was eavesdropping. Jake introduces me to the new girl. "Nikki this is Madison." I politely say, "Nice to meet you." I move my stuff over so she has room to sit next to me.

I can't help but realize how happy Jake is. He has that mesmerized look on his face as he listens to Madison talk about where she came from. I don't think he is listening much because he is too busy staring at her beauty. I pop the question, "Madison, what is your schedule?" I think that gets Jake's attention he takes out his schedule and starts comparing her schedule with his. "Hey, look. We have 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and lunch together!" Madison responds, "Really? Yay! Now I know one person at least!" I smile as I fight back my thoughts. Why couldn't I be her? How come she gets to be in four classes with my best friend? The lunch bell rings, time to get to my next class. "Madison, let's go to our next class together. Bye Nikki I will meet you later!" I don't even have time to respond. He is already too far in the distance. I sigh to myself as I throw my trash away and walk by myself to my next class. I try to hold my head high and think on the bright side. I say to myself, "What bright side? My best friend put aside the fact that I was eating lunch with him and fell for the new girl instead. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings. Love for me will not be one of them..."

Poor Nicole, she thought this year was going to be memorable between her and Jake. Now it looks as though it will be between Jake and Madison.
