Chapter eight
Ameera's dorm:
Ameera jolted awake from the sound of harsh knocking she pushed herself up looking at the wrist watch that she never takes off and frowned in confusion. It was two A.M. She couldn't understand who would be knocking at her dorm room at that time. Ameera pushed herself up and walked towards the wooden door not having a problem in opening the door as her pajama was modest enough. All her pajamas are actually because she can't get comfortable enough except with baggy clothes.
She pulled the door open and her jaw dropped in shock. In front of her stood a heaving Adham. The moment she opened the door he had pushed her aside and entered slamming the door shut.
"What the heck are you doing her?" Ameera refrained from cursing. He ignored her and entered the room, quickly sitting on the bed. Ameera pushed her red bangs away from her face and tried to tame it. In the end she just woke up.
"For God's sake answer me." Ameera said in frustration.
"I will explain just give me a minute" Adham answered looking around frantically. When his eyes fell on the small window that was situated at the far end of the room he stood up quickly and walked towards it. Adham opened the sliding window-glass and looked down with a panic stricken face. It was so weird for Ameera to see the Adham panicking so she immediately went to curiously look at what he was looking at. But when Ameera looked down their was nothing out of the ordinary. When Adham stayed looking she stayed beside him trying to understand.
Seconds or rather minutes later and two men ran out of the boys' dorm building and looked around frantically. The moment that Adham saw them he grabbed Ameera's shoulder and crouched down out of view taking her with him. Ameera glared at him and snatched her covered arm from his grip. Adham tried to hide his smile as he had never seen Ameera that worked up and she looked so cute and childlike.
When she continued glaring at him in anger he raised his arms up in a silent way of saying "I'm sorry" Ameera tried hard to hide her smile but couldn't. For a moment Adham forgot all about his problem and panic all because of watching her. But sadly it was only for a moment.
They were interrupted by the sound of car doors slamming shut and the roar of an engine. Adham sighed in relief and his shoulders relaxed releasing some of the tension, after he heard the sound of the car fading away in the exit direction.
Ameera stood up from her hunched over position, she brushed away the imaginary dust off of her pants, feeling like she didn't need to hide anymore after seeing how Adham relaxed.
"Now can you explain?" Ameera asked with a hand on her waist in a scolding way, looking as beautiful and cute as possible. 'Or even more' Adham had a second thought. Adham looked at her and knew he can't escape from this moment by any way possible.
He sighed, stood up copying her move but sat rather than standing. He had chosen to sit on the neat bed that was beside the wall immediately rather than the other bed full of clothes and college books.
"That's your bed?" he pointed on the bed he was sitting on.
"Yeah, Now explain" She could make a good teacher Adham thought. She was kind when needed and intimidating when needed.
"Okay I was running from a past I can't talk about"
"Oh, really. And that was supposed to be an explanation?" she asked in that way that made her much cuter.
"Look, if I could I would've told you but I really can't" Adham answered still looking around the room.
"How did you enter this building, the girl's dorms?"
"Luck was on my side I guess. I found a secret room for the cleaners to pass through and a cleaner had just exited and his hands were too busy to close the door so I slipped inside. I couldn't just knock on any door and I remembered the number of your room from when you were talking to Mariam" he answered truthfully.
"Ok I think" She shrugged and her body finally relaxed. Adham watched as she sat behind him on the bed and folded her legs in an Indian style. He turned to fully face her. Her naturally red hair was flowing freely around her face which was weird to see as she always tame it as if scared to show it off and she was wearing an onesie cute rabbit kind of thing. She looked as cute and natural as ever.
"Where is your roommate though?" Adham looked warily at the other side of the dorm. Confusion filled him when he saw the flash of pain or rather agony in Ameera's eyes. He frowned not liking that she felt that way for even one second.
"That was the side of my twin I asked for her not to be replaced and we will pay for the whole room. Thankfully they agreed." She fed off his confusion replacing it with guilt. "I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to throw salt on open wounds." He clamped his hand on his forehead feeling as guilty and stupid as ever. "Oh my God, I'm so.." Before he could complete he was interrupted by the most musical sound ever. She had just giggled.
"I'm sorry Adham. But your reaction though or rather overreaction was hilarious." Ameera said trying to stop laughing but failing miserably. Adham rather than being offended was amused. When she was laughing her eyes would light up like a child and it was beautiful it showed how real her happiness was and Adham felt relief.
"Well I'll go before someone locks this secret door. Sorry for disturbing you at this time though." Adham said tapping his thighs as he stood up. Ameera copied his actions and gave him a small smile in response.
"It's okay. I'll usher you out" she said guiding him to the dorm's room, shook his hand and he exited.
Ameera turned around and caught a glimpse of herself in the hallway mirror and froze. She cringed. Oh my God!! Adham saw me looking like this. I look disgusting Ameera thought. If only she knew how beautiful Adham thought she was.
She turned around and threw herself on the bed smiling. Without even trying he had made her smile like a fool.
