Chapter twenty six
Finally
Ameera felt like breaking down. She couldn't imagine going through what Adham went through. His pure heart felt his brother's pain as his. He even blamed himself for his brother's wrong decisions.
Adham has been living a very hard life and a very lonely life. His pain affected her so much. She wished she was there for him when he needed her, but she promised herself to be there for him for the rest of his journey.
Adham was avoiding her eyes; she guessed he was nervous about her reaction to his narration. She smiled. Adham was such an innocent child at heart. Ameera extended her hand out for him with a tearful smile. She held is hand over the table, while he looked at her with surprised, hopeful eyes. "I want to be beside you for the rest of our lives. Can I be?"
He paused as he tried to grasp what he had heard, then smiled widely. "That would be a dream come true"
Silence.
Comfortable, happy silence followed, as they both realized how much their lives have changed. As they both realized that maybe their future will be way better than they've previously imagined.
One month later
Ameera had insisted and convinced Adham that he needs to meet his family, and his family needs to meet him. This reunion shouldn't be delayed more than that. Adham wasn't ready, but he knew that without her nagging he may have never taken this step.
So while he tried to appear sad about the decision, Adham was actually very happy and satisfied that Ameera was beside and supporting him through this. He was glad that she convinced him. Adham was happy she was there to guide him through the very hard situation.
They were currently in front of his family's unfamiliar house. Tension. He was so tense, but at least Ameera was holding his hand. She is there. She will help, when he can't speak. She will help, when he gets too emotional. She will help whenever he needs help. Even her existence, without any effort from her side, helps him.
He had already met her family and got their initial approval for future marriage. However, further steps won't be taken without his family beside him. He can't take such decision without his family's emotional support. Adham is a family man, like it or not.
Adham could hear his family's laughter through the door. Nostalgia was killing him.
Finally
Finally, the door opened to reveal his missed brother, Amer.
Amer's face was expressionless, but Adham didn't care. He missed his brother. Adham immediately grabbed his younger brother into a long-needed hug. Seeing him after all these years looking so healthy and happy got Adham emotional, proud and most importantly ecstatic. Nothing could make him feel as satisfied as he felt right now. Ameera tried to slip her hand out of his to give them their moment, but he squeezed her hand in disagreement. He needed her. The two persons he felt most protective over, Amer and Ameera, were okay and safe. They were both within reach and safe. His brother seemed to be getting over his shock, as he hugged Adham back.
Amer felt the tears running on his face, as he realized that he was indeed hugging his long-lost brother. The man he cared about most. All his success and healing was a silent cry out for his brother to come back.
Amer was fighting all his demons only in hopes of magically getting his brother back. He dreamt that his brother will hear about his progress and come back. Amer has always blamed himself for his brother's disappearance. He realizes that his last problem was the last straw that totally pushed him away. Amer was the disappointment. The disappointment that triggered the disaster.
All his effort in the rehabilitation period and in his studies were to get his brother back. He needed him. He needed his support and love back.
Finally.
Finally, he got what he needed most.
