Spencer's Kickboxing Gym

Spencer immediately jumped into the ring and knelt with me besides Mirijana.

"What the fuck was that?" He questioned frantically.

I grabbed her towel next to us and started dabbing away the sweat on her body. "Just help me get her up to your office or something."

We picked up Mirijana and got her through the maze of people who were staring in shock. When we got to the office, we laid her down and immediately got her towel wet and put it over her forehead. "Medical history?"

"Nothing that could have triggered this. She is clean and healthy. This has never happened before either," Spencer explained with his arms crossed over his chest.

"I think we should just leave her to lay down while you call someone to get her."

He nodded his head and went through a few papers before dialing a number and calling it.

"Someone is coming in a few minutes. I'm gonna go get her bag," Spencer left the room.

Moments after , the door opened. Expecting Spencer to walk through, I was shocked to see the figure standing before me.

"H-hi," I stuttered awkwardly.

"Where are my daughters belongings?"

"What?" I was shocked at her response. "Umm. Spencer has just gone to grab her things."

"So how have you been?" I asked trying to make conversation.

"Honestly, the day you got arrested.I was relieved really. I had finally gotten rid of you. But now that you're back, it's a different story."

Wendy spoke with such venom, I couldn't believe the words leaving her mouth. My brain was trying to process what she was saying and suddenly everything made sense. The note Jacky and I received at Jessica's funeral.

Watch yourselves Kate and Jacky. Next time the bullet will go through your own heads.

Before I could say anything about the letter, Spencer walked in through the office door. "Kate, Christian is-" he paused when he took notice of Wendy's presence. "Oh hi Mrs Johnson."

Mrs Johnson?

"Spencer," she greeted back with a cheerful smile.

"Here are your daughter's things. Would you prefer to wait in here until she wakes up? It shouldn't be long from now."

"Oh no no. I would just prefer to just get her in the car if you don't mind helping me with her," she said sweetly.

"Of course."

I was flabbergasted at her approach about everything. How her tone changed in two seconds. "What did you need from me Spence?"

"Oh. Christian is on the phone for you," he said, handing me his phone.

"Hello?" I said into the speaker.

"What happened to you? You just walked out and didn't come back. What was that," Christian's voice loudly spoke.

"Calm down I'm fine. I just went to the gym. I'm on my way back though."

"Okay good. And your lawyer just got here with the file."

"Okay. I'll be right there."

Home...California

Upon opening the door to the house, I was immediately greeted by the small voices of two men, Parker and Christian. I went through to the living room where I suspected they would be. As soon as I made my presence known, there was an awful lot of tension between them but I chose to ignore it.

"I think I know who did it. We just have to figure out a way to prove it," I announced.

Christian shot up from his seat. "Who?"

"Wendy."

Parker looked at me with frantic eyes that gave away that something was up. He quickly recovered and stood up to join me and Christian. "What? That's absurd. It has to be someone else with a solid motive. What would hers be?"

I lightly shook my head in disbelief at what Parker said. "Remember that note I gave you the first day of my trial?"

"Yeah?" He said in a tone that showed cluelessness. "Wait. You gave me a note?"

I quickly thought back to the day to make sure of what had happen.

We were on a break from the trail going on today when I realised I had forgotten to give Parker the note. The note that got my family on edge for three long years. That note that sent fear through all of us. The note that made us look over our shoulders everywhere we went.

"I forgot to give this to you," I told Parker who was sitting across from me looking through a few papers.

He looked up from what he was doing and stretched out his arm to grab the little note from my grip. He read it and his facial expression went stone cold. "What is this Kate?"

"It was found at my friends funeral in 2016. Right after the priest was shot into the grave."

"I'm afraid it's too late for this now. In any case it won't prove anything other than the fact that someone wanted you and Jacky dead," he said.

"Exactly!" I exclaimed. "And I know who it is. It's Wendy. She didn't take her divorce with my father very well and Jacky told me that she was throwing around threats at her."

"That's impossible. This is not even Wendy's handwriting. Someone else wrote this. It was definitely not her," he defended her.

"Look Parker. I'm paying you a lot of money here to side with me, and only me. How do you know what her handwriting looks like anyway?"

He drew in a heavy breath through his nose and shut his eyes momentarily. "I'm sorry. And you're right. I'll look into this for tomorrows session. It's too late right now to gather enough evident against her," he agreed but somehow avoided my question.

He stuffed the note in a plastic sleeve before popping that into his briefcase.

"I remember giving it to you and you put it in your briefcase," I slapped myself at the realisation of what could have happened. "Parker you did check it out as you promised right?"

"Yes. I did and I found nothing."

"What is happening?" Christian said, finally making his presence known.
I ignored him and directed my attention to my lawyer. "Find the note Parker. Come back when you have it,"

"Are you kicking me out? I told you. There was nothing I could find on that thing," he protested.

"Find the note Parker. Come back when you have it," I repeated. I was suddenly furious at Parker because I knew that he wasn't telling me the truth. But I will soon find out whatever he is hiding.
