Chapter 6-Oct 9, 2013 Wednesday Noon
I slowly chewed the last bite of my roast beef sandwich as my mom entered, carrying some clothes. She closed the curtain behind her before helping me out of the hospital gown. She handed me the shirt before removing the sheet from over my legs. Together we pulled the long skirt over the casts; then she opened the curtain, allowing my dad in with a wheelchair.
“What is that for?” I exclaimed as I pushed my back against the headboard.
“Did you think we were going to carry you out?” my dad asked as he stared at me with blue eyes.
“No…but how am I supposed to get in it?” I questioned as I stared at it.
“Well, I was thinking of doing this…” He picked me up and carefully placed me on the wheelchair. “Do you like it? I got it yesterday…” he told, stepping back.
“It’s nice, Dad…” I commented as I ran my fingers along the cushioned armrests. “Can we go home?”
“Yes dear,” my mom replied as she got behind me and started to push. We down a couple hallways before ending up in the lobby. “Go get the van, honey,” ordered my mother as we stopped near the door.
“Van?” I asked as my dad hurried out, while searching his pockets for his keys. “We don’t have a van…”
“We had to get one for your wheelchair to go in…” she explained as she looked out the door.
“I hate this…” I mumbled with my arms crossed over my chest.
“Did you say something?” she inquired as a blue van pulled into the loop.
“Nothing,” I sighed as she pushed me toward the van, while my dad opened the door and let down the ramp. They pushed me into the van, put up the ramp, and closed the door before driving home.
