Chapter 15-Oct 13, 2013 Sunday Noon
“Are you ready to go?” Rebekka asked as she ran into my room, interrupting my writing.
“For? Where?” I inquired as I put my pen back in its jar.
“Lunch. Now come on,” she cheered as she pulled my chair back.
“Okay. Okay,” I laughed as I followed her out of the house. “Where are we going?”
“Shoney’s!” she said as she climbed into the van before my parents loaded me in.
We soon arrived and my parents helped me out; then Bekka and I followed them inside.
I sat at the end of the table, while the waitress took our drink order. As she left, my mom asked, “What do you want to eat?” She stood and turned toward the buffet.
“I can get it myself. I’m not a baby,” I replied, backing up slightly, careful not to roll over any toes.
“I know you’re not, but please stay behind me anyway then,” she said before heading to the line.
I glided after her and grabbed a plate, setting it on my lap. I followed her, stopping only when I wanted food. Every-time I did, I would put my plate on the counter before piling the food on; then I would place it back on my lap.
My mom had started back already as I put my plate on my lap again. I began going forward, accidentally rolling into someone as he walked into my way. “Sorry…” I stuttered, glancing up. “James!”
“Look, what it is! Meals on wheels!” he laughed as he tapped his buddy on the back before pointing at me.
“Very funny. Now please excuse me,” I hissed as I turned my chair to go around him.
“I’m not done with you yet, shorty,” he mocked as he stepped into my way again, his friend blocking off the other path.
“I’m a shorty now, huh?” I giggled as I punched him in the gut. “I think I’m the right height. Now get out of my way.”
He was bent over, but still not moving out of my way; then someone tapped his shoulder. “I believe my daughter told you to leave her alone,” my dad snapped as he grabbed James’ shoulder, spinning him to face him. James yanked away from my dad before he and his buddy left.
“Thank Dad,” I said as I pushed forward. “Let’s go eat.” He grabbed the back of my chair and helped me over to the table.
