Chapter 3
I packed my over night bag for Sarah's party, silently scolding myself for saying yes in the first place. My mom came in then. "Are you ready to go to Sarah's? If you don't want to go, they will understand. But if you do still want to go i got her a present and it's downstairs. If you want to be picked up early just text or call me." My mom started ranting, again.
I picked up my bag and held out my hand. She stopped talking and followed me downstairs.
I picked up thel wrapped present off of the coffee table. My mom got her another best friends braclet, a french scarf from Aunt Silvies shop, and a starbucks gift card. I know my mom very well. I picked up the other braclet and put it on my left wrist. My mom grabbed the keys and we went to the car.
The drive to Sarah's dad's house, which was more like a mansion, took about a half an hour. About halfway there, Prove You Wrong came on the radio. My mom instantly turned it off and i looked away. My mind took me to the memory that the song reminded me of the most.
It was our talent show of the year when i had first met Danny. I fell in love with him and i didn't think that he noticed me. He was still hurt because of his ex girlfriend jackie, who broke up with him for his best friend. So i preformed in the talent show and sang Prove you wrong, which is about a girl wanting for the guy she likes to be with her. I had a rose in my hand with a note attatched to it that said 'I love you Danny'. A spontanious idea that i thought was set up for failure. I sang the song infront of the school in our theatre and sang it directly to him, looking right into his eyes. At the end of the song i dropped to my knees and looked up. That is where it got even more spontanious. My thoughts even remotly close to a happy beginning for me and Danny didn't even come close to what he did. Danny got out of his seat, walked on stage and kissed me infront of the entire school. That is how our relationship got started, becuase of a wild and crazy fantasy i had about wanting to be with Danny. Then on July 23rd 2010 that dream died. Just like Danny.
My eyes readjusted to the scene around me and i was back in the car with my mom. My cheeks were wet and it seemed that the day wanted to match my mood. There were dark grey clouds blocking the sun and small raindrops descended from the sky. The afternoon seemed very sad.
As we pulled around the giant driveway of the house Sarah ran to meet our car.
She opened my door and gave me a big hug. "Oh Jaymie! I have missed you soo much!" She sqealed. "Oh come on, almost everyone is here." We walked in the front door and i could tell there was already over 200 people there. Sarah took me downstairs and put my over night bag on the couch by alot of other bags. We went back upstairs and i lost Sarah in the crowd of people.
I stood against the wall close to the kitchen as people pushed to get places for no reason at all. A guy came up to me and leaned against the wall next to me.
"Hey." He said. I nodded. The guy had tussled blonde hair, green eyes and was about 6'1.
"I'm Braydon." He said.
"Jaymie." I whispered.
"It's nice to meet you Jaymie." He said. I was fairly suprised that he even heard me. "You don't talk much do you Jaymie?" I shook my head. "Well that's ok. I will talk to you so your not alone."
As Braydon talked i learned that he was new to town and met Sarah in Starbucks. He seemed pretty nice.
A couple hours passed and it started getting darker outside. Braydon and i went to the kitchen to get some water when Austin saw me. Austin is one of the jock guys who did not like the fact that Danny and i had been dating.
"Hey Jaymie! " Austin said as he put his arm around me. "I've missed you babe!" I tried t get out of his hold but he tightened his grip around my shoulders. "Hey guys! You've met my girlfriend before right? Aint she a beauty?"
One of Austins friends called out. "Why doesn't she talk?" Is she like mute?" They all cracked up.
"No." Austin replied, all cocky and arrogent. "She doesn't need to talk." He shoved his mouth against mine and i grabbed the cutting board off the counter and shoved it somewhere he really didn't want that cutting board shoved.
He let go of me and dropped to the ground with his face bright red. "You bitch." He gasped. "I can see why Danny wanted to die."
Their were many gasps that traveled through the crowd that had just witnessed the scene, then dead silence. I broke out in tears and shoved my way through the crowd. Braydon and Sarah tried to catch up with me. I ran to the basement and locked the door behind me. I threw myself onto the couch and sobbed next to my bag.
I was crying when something caught my eye. The porch door had been opened just recently. Something moved in the corner of the room and it wasnt an animal. I fumbled with the zipper on my bag and got my phone out. The shadow moved closer to me.
I hit my moms number and bolted for the stairs.
My mom picked up. "Jaymie is," I cut her off.
"Mom Help!!" A hand covered my mouth and dragged me down the stairs. I got thrown to the floor. I tried to get up but i wasn't fast enough. My assulter pinned me to the ground and pulled a knife to my throat.
"Please don't." I cried.
I could hear my mom's panicing voice from my phone on the floor. "Jaymie! Jaymie!!!"
Oh no, i thought. I am going to die.
