"Dungeon up ahead!"
My friends, Emily and Max, and I run through the forest as fast as we can. The trees blur past us as we make twists and turns around them towards the large stone tower ahead. I stare up at it in amazement as we get closer. It looked to have six floors, each filled with monsters to fight and items to collect. Oh all the cool things that might be in there!
I imagine all the items we'll get, enchanted armor and weapons. All the monsters we'll see and fight within it. And the best part. The boss. I bet it's going to be huge! And we're going to beat it!
I let out an excited laugh and run faster.
"Misty, wait up!" Emily laughs behind me, her shoulder length blonde hair flowing behind her as she runs. Her hand crafted bow in her hand and a quiver of arrows on her back. Max ran beside her with a tight grip on his iron sword, ready to fight.
"Hurry up, slowpokes!" I laugh.
Emily and Max gasp and skid to a sudden stop.
"Misty, watch out!" Max calls.
"What?!" I look in from of me. "Yah!" I yelp and skid to a stop in front of a man and two soldiers.
"Colonel! We- uh..." Emily stutters.
The colonel scowls down at us. The soldiers look ahead, their faces could not be made out because of their helmets shading their faces.
"Misty, why did you leave the village?" Colonel says.
"We just wanted to explore a bit." I say, "Is that really bad?"
"Misty," Colonel says, "You know the rules."
"Yeah, yeah, no leaving unless you are a licensed hunter, miner, or mob slayer." I say, "How are we supposed to get experience for that if we're not even allowed to leave?"
"Don't argue." Colonel says, "Let's go back to the village."
I sigh, "Fine." I look up at the tower before beginning the trek back to the village.
We all walk in silence. A somewhat awkward silence if you ask me. But I don't care. I enjoy the silence. I may not be allowed in the dungeon but at least I can be outside of that wretched village and be in the real world. But, sadly, I can't enjoy it as much as I would like to.
I stare ahead of me, thinking of the dungeon and what could have been.
"Misty." Max says from behind me. I don't look at him. "Mist!" he runs in front of me and turns around so he is walking backwards to face me. I notice a sense of worry in his forest-green eyes.
"Don't try to cheer me up Max," I say, "Nothing you say will work."
He slows down so he is walking at my pace beside me. "What if I say that our ceremonies are next week?" he says. A small smile forms on his face.
I glance at him then continue to look ahead. "Why would that cheer me up?" I say, "I'll probably get elected for farming or something boring like that."
"Nuh uh!" Max says, "Mist, don't put yourself down like that, you have great potential!"
"Thanks." I say halfheartedly.
Great potential. Huh, I'll keep that in mind.
A small confident smile forms on my lips and I stare ahead, ready for anything that comes my way.
A/N: Short chapter. (The chapter names probably won' last long tbh)
