SIX - So I'm a monster slayer now...?

I didn't go back to my room last night. Instead I just fell asleep at a picnic table in the center of town. The girls dorm advisor wasn't too pleased and said if I keep this up I can get kicked out of my job as a dungeon explorer. I found this stupid. All I did was go outside; it's not like I left the village.

I sigh and rest my head on my hand. I wait for my friends at the same table I fell asleep at last night. While waiting I start to go off in my little fantasy land.

I imagine myself killing the final boss of a dungeon. My imaginary self is wielding the powerful Big Bertha. I have diamond- no, ultimate armor.

Speaking of that, I still have yet to test out the gear Elli gave me. I can do that later.

I snap out of my zone when I notice Jonathan staring at me. I sit up straight. "what?" I snap, you can easily hear the awkwardness in my voice.

"We're heading out," he says, "Colton told me to come get you" he notices the backpack at my feet. "What's in the bag?"

I panic a bit and pick up the bag. "Nothing," I say, "I was gonna use it for any cool items we happen to come across."

he narrows his eyes. "Doesn't look empty to me"

"Pfft well duh," I say, "I have food and tools in it too."

"Oh okay," he says, "can I have some food? I missed breakfast." He holds out his hand.

"no!" I nearly yell, I realize what I did and calm down a bit. "Sorry I'm saving it," I say with an awkward laugh.

Jonathan puts his hand down. "Alright..." he says, "let's just go." He turns and heads towards the normal meeting place.

"Good idea." I say. I hesitate before slinging the bag over my shoulder and following him.

Jonathan and I enter the meeting room. Colton and the rest of our group is there waiting for us. But they aren't the only ones. The Colonel is here too. Why is he here?

Jonathan is just as confused as I am. He looks at me with a concerned frown. I shrug and look at the group. They give us the same confused look.

"Uh what's-?" Jonathan starts.

Colton holds up his hand to silence him. "I know you all are confused," he says, "we will explain, just sit down."

Jonathan and I obey and sit down with the rest of the group.

"The Colonel and I have decided to make some changes to how things will work with jobs and such." Colton begins, "we have come to an agreement to combine the jobs of Dungeon Explorers and Monster Slayers."

A small murmur of confusion spreads across the room.

"What about the knights?" One boy speaks up.

"The knights are a higher rank," Colonel says, "in order to become a knight you must have at least two years of experience in either being a Dungeon explorer or a Monster Slayer."

"Does the Mayor know about this?" Jonathan asks.

"We have spoken with Mayor Bracnor and he has agreed with this change." Colton replies

Jonathan gives Colton a small nod and sits back in his seat.

"Any other questions?" Colton asks. The room stays silent and he sighs. "Alright then, let's head out."

"Wait!"

The whole room shifts and everyone looks at the door. Max comes running in. He stops at the door and tries to catch his breath. His hair looks un groomed as of he just woke up moments ago.
