"Are you cheating on me?" He asked slowly.
"No! Why would you think that?" I asked, starting to get irritated.
"Meghan thought that you were... with Jake." he said, raising his voice.
"Well," I said, standing up, "Meghan doesn't know squat! I thought you guys trusted me!¨
"I do trust you..." he said, quietly trailing off.
"Obviously not! I would never cheat on you! Especially not with Jake!" I said, disgusted.
"Emma, please don't be mad... I don't think that you would ever cheat on me. I was just making sure that it was just a rumor..." He trailed off.
"Oh. Great, now it's a rumor that's floating around the school. How could this possibly get worse?" I asked, sadly.
"Meghan could leave you for Julie." He muttered.
"No she wouldn't." I said, "We both hate Julie."
"Really?" He asked, " I saw them talking after school. They seemed like they were friends."
"Then I'll be having a chat with Meghan." I said with anger.
"Okay, good luck, babe." He said smiling.
"Thanks. But that doesn't mean you're off the hook just yet." I said with power. Then, I closed the door, and walked back to the kitchen to get my cereal.
After I ate, I walked to my room to do my homework. Couldn't. Tried to sleep. Couldn't. This whole thing about Meghan and Julie wouldn't leave my mind. I still couldn't believe Michael thought I would cheat on him either. I didn't talk to Michael for almost two months. Then, I got a text.
"Hey baby, how was your day?" I read.
"Hey, it was okay, I guess." I didn't want to reply, but I couldn't help it.
We talked for about an hour and a half, then I went over to Meghan's house. I got into my car, and headed over. When I got there, there weren't any lights on, but she was home. I heard her talking, but I didn't know who she was talking to. I got a little afraid, and walked to the front door. There was someone else's car in her driveway, but it wasn't either one of her parents'. They were out of town. And it wasn't Jake's either. He's staying with a few friends. I thought to myself 'They're still dating right??' I didn't know, so I went out to my car, and called Jake. He said they were, but I didn't tell him about the car. I hung up and walked to the door again. I was scared and didn't know what to do, so I just knocked. She yelled "One second!", and some lights came on. I heard her whisper something to someone, but couldn't hear exactly what she said. When she came to the door, her face was flushed red and her hair was a mess. Also, she was wearing a man's T-shirt and light grey shorts that you could barely see.
"Um, sorry to bother you." I said, awkwardly, "Um, did I wake you up?"
"Uh..." she hesitated, "N- yeah. Um, but it's okay. Come on in." As I stepped inside the house, I noticed a familiar scent. It was sort of like the smell of James Greystone - from Biology 1 - and Cam Reynolds - from Theater 1 - combined. We walked upstairs, to her room and the first thing I saw was a person sneaking into the closet. Of course, I only got a glimpse of him before Meghan shut the door.
"Let's go downstairs and pop some popcorn and get a soda or something." She said quickly. I sensed something was going on. It's like I knew exactly what was happening. The thing is, it didn't register in my brain yet. So, of course, I let her take two steps down the stairs and then grabbed her arm.
"Who was that in your room?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" She asked, "There's not anyone in my room."
"Then why did I see Jordan David, from Theater 1, sneak into your closet?" I asked, loudly.
"Look, Emma. There's no one in my closet. I think you're just paranoid because you haven't talked to Michael in awhile. Call him. He's probably still up. If you want me to prove that there isn't anyone in my-"
"Okay, prove it then." I interrupted, "I want you to prove to me that you don't have anyone in your room. And, that there is no car in your driveway."
"Okay." She shrugged as she started up the stairs. "You coming?" I hurriedly walked over to her and we walked up the stairs to her room. She hesitantly turned the doorknob and slowly opened the door. She walked inside and sat on her bed.
"Go ahead. Open the closet." She said, looking at the window, worriedly. At that moment I took one step towards the window but Meghan beat me to it. I knew there was something going on. When she got to the window, she slammed it shut and yanked at the curtains until they closed. I walked over to her and she had this worried and guilty face on. Just then, a tear sprung up and fell down her face. She quickly wiped it away when she saw me. She slowly walked over to her bed and lied down the opposite direction of the window and the closet. She turned to me.
"Emma, I'm sorry. For everything. Yes. I'm cheating. It doesn't feel good either. Jordan is in my closet. We were doing things we weren't supposed to. Those are his jeans under my bed. I threw this robe on, because I have nothing else on. That is his wrapper in my trashcan. We knew we shouldn't do it, but we couldn't help it."
"Meghan. Thank you for telling me everything. So y'all actually did 'it'??"
"Yeah.." She said in a whisper.
"Meg. Don't you know what could happen?!" I said as I raised my voice.
"Yes and that's why that 'thing' is in my trashcan." She explained.
"Those don't always work you know." I talked back.
"But I know this one did. I can feel it." She said closing her eyes.
