Reyna's POV
I waited weeks. Months. I had finally learned to somewhat get over with Jerome and move on with my life, and believe that there was something else planned for me. Something better. But hardly did I know that all that was going to change.
The day started off normal. Just another dark, gloomy day in Gotham. Lauren and I were on our way to the biggest football game of the season at Gotham City High School: The state championship game.
Technically I was still grounded, but Lauren begged my dad to let me come, and I was convinced my dad loved Lauren more than he loved me, so he let me go.
Lauren was all into this stuff. She wanted to be a cheerleader all her life, and the fact that she was continuously rejected from the team didn't stop her. When Lauren's mind was set on something, nothing could stop her.
So, she put her hair in cute little pigtails, with navy blue bows, (Gotham High's colors), and tried to make me do the same thing. I just agreed to pull my hair into a high ponytail and put a blue bow in that.
She had decided to drive us, so my dad didn't have to wait around. Not that he would've anyways. He was still acting cold towards me, so he'd only talk to me when it was something he needed, or what I wanted for dinner. I just ignored it though. He was spending a lot more time with Lee, so maybe she could straighten him out.
"Now, wear this." Lauren threw me a little blue crop top with the letters GCHS painted in white on it. I laughed out loud.
"You're cute if you think you're going to get me to wear this." I said, holding the shirt up with two fingers.
"I'm cute anyways. And it was worth a shot." She sighed and then rummaged through her bag and threw a blue sweatshirt at me with the same print on it. "Here. You like this instead?" I just nodded and pulled the hoodie on over my shirt and adjusted my leggings.
"Alright- I'm ready to go whenever you are." I said, sitting on my be. Lauren pulled out some blue sparkly eyeliner and opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, I held up a finger.
"No. No way. No." She sighed and rolled her eyes at me before getting up and walking to my mirror, applying the makeup to herself. I laid back on my bed and checked my phone and, as usual, there were no messages. So I resorted to scrolling through Tumblr until Lauren announced she was ready.
"Alright, let's head out. We can't be late."
"Yes, Lauren, we can. You know you're not ACTUALLY a cheerleader, right? No one's counting on your arrival." She squinted her eyes and stuck her tongue out at me like a five year old, and I just laughed. I walked out of my room and grabbed my house keys, and slid them and my phone into the pocket of the hoodie.
Lauren's car was always so clean, with not a single speck of dust on the windows. I don't know how she kept it that way. My dad refused to buy me a car, so I had to wait until I could make up the money to get me my own. The entire drive to the high school football field, Lauren played over-rated pop songs and tried to pep herself up for the game, while I just stared out the window silently. When we pulled up to the school I adjusted my sweatshirt and got out of the car, as Lauren did the same. She walked over and nudged me.
"Cheer up, frowny face. We're here to have fun and get our mind off things. Remember? Get a little fresh air." I plastered a small smile on my lips and took a deep breath.
"Yeah, I know. Sorry. I just haven't been myself lately.. you know?"
"By lately, do you mean for months?" Lauren stopped walking and grabbed my arm, leading me to the far side of the stadium, where the rest of our classmates were gathered. "Reyna, Jerome has been gone for months. You've gotta get over him! You two weren't even dating!" I shoved my hands in my pockets again and shook my head.
